GovCon Senior Accountant
Location: Springfield, VA (5 days per week onsite)
Type: Full-Time
A mid-sized government contractor (≈$40 million in annual revenue) is seeking a Senior Accountant to join its accounting and finance team. This position opened due to a recent resignation and will report directly to the Vice President of Finance and Accounting.
The ideal candidate will have substantial government‑contract accounting experience, a strong technical accounting background, and the ability to collaborate effectively across departments and with external vendors and customers. Experience with JAMIS accounting software is highly preferred.
Responsibilities
Perform and oversee daily accounting activities, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general ledger maintenance.
Review A/P bills, credit‑card transactions, and A/R billings.
Prepare and file sales and use tax returns and annual 1099s.
Reconcile G/L accounts, bank accounts, and credit‑card statements.
Support month‑end, quarter‑end, and year‑end close processes.
Analyze project status reports and other financial statements.
Assist with external audits, tax filings, and other compliance requirements.
Contribute to process improvements and maintain strong internal controls.
Qualifications
U.S. citizenship is required.
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required.
Minimum 5 years of progressive accounting experience, including substantial GovCon exposure.
Strong technical accounting background with proficiency in Excel and database tools.
JAMIS ERP experience strongly preferred; knowledge of Wide Area Workflow is a plus.
Excellent analytical, problem‑solving, and communication skills.
Self‑starter able to work both independently and collaboratively.
Strong attention to detail, organization, and time‑management skills.
