Job Summary ECM has an opening for a Senior Accountant in Oshkosh, WI. This position will be responsible for all accounting functions for two business units including accounts payable, accounts receivable, sales tax returns, general ledger, monthly financial statement preparation, job costing, and various other accounting projects. To be successful you should have a solid working knowledge of GAAP and strong financial analysis skills. Outstanding candidates should have strong Excel skills, be detail‑oriented, highly organized, and able to work with little supervision and perform under pressure. This role is hybrid.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Maintain and reconcile the general ledger, ensuring accuracy and proper recording of all transactions.
Lead or perform complex month‑end and year‑end closing procedures, including preparing and reviewing journal entries.
Perform complex account reconciliations, especially for balance sheet accounts (fixed assets, investments, accruals).
Prepare, analyze, and review financial statements (Balance Sheet, Income Statement, Statement of Cash Flows) for accuracy and compliance.
Ensure all accounting operations comply with GAAP or IFRS and local/federal tax regulations.
Coordinate and assist with internal and external audits, preparing necessary work papers and liaising with auditors.
Analysis & Strategy
Conduct detailed variance analyses (Budget vs. Actual) and provide insightful explanations and recommendations.
Perform in‑depth financial analysis, cash flow forecasting, and prepare ad‑hoc financial reports for management.
Assist in the development, monitoring, and analysis of departmental or organizational budgets and forecasts.
Identify opportunities to streamline and improve accounting systems, policies, and procedures to enhance efficiency and internal controls.
Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in accounting (preferred).
3‑5 years of accounting experience.
Construction accounting experience is strongly preferred.
Federal, State, and local tax experience preferred.
Advanced Excel proficiency: VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, INDEX/MATCH, Pivot Tables, and complex formulas.
Competency with ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, NetSuite) and specialized accounting software.
Strong problem‑solving and investigation skills.
Ability to create clear, organized, and comprehensive workpapers and documentation for audit readiness.
Excellent communication skills, translating complex accounting concepts to non‑financial stakeholders.
Time management and prioritization: manage multiple deadlines under pressure.
Deep working knowledge of GAAP/IFRS for accurate financial reporting.
Experience with month‑end/year‑end close, including accruals and reconciliations.
Understanding of internal controls over financial reporting (SOX, etc.).
Knowledge of basic corporate income tax concepts and how they relate to the general ledger.
Mastery of fixed assets and depreciation accounting.
