Job Summary
The Teacher-Lead is responsible for the overall management of the classroom. Coordinates the care and education of young children by planning and implementing a program that meets the standards of the Academy for Early Childhood Program Accreditation outlined by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) and other regulatory agencies such as Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP), Arizona Department of Health Services (ADHS) and Maricopa County Health Department (MCHD) for a specific age group. Maintains and utilizes equipment and materials in all outdoor and indoor learning center activities. Provides guidance and supervision for Teachers, Assistant Teachers, Interns, and Volunteers. Supports parents by establishing a partnership of mutual concern and respect for each child.
Essential Functions
Plans and implements curriculum to meet the criteria of NAEYC. Evaluates the individual abilities and developmental needs of children; communicates effectively with children and parents and addresses ways to support transitions between home and center.
Conducts daily observations to ensure that each child is observed weekly and uses anecdotal and developmental checklists for planning, portfolios and assessment for each child in the fall, winter and spring. Communication notes are completed daily for each child and presented to parents. Classroom journal is used to document relevant information to classroom staff. Conferences are held with parents in the fall, winter and spring and goals are mutually defined.
Coordinates with all staff to meet center goals to keep the environment safe, clean, healthy and organized per CACFP and ADHS. Participates in problem solving and implements procedures to meet these goals throughout the day.
Help orient, guide and evaluate the Assistant, Teachers, Interns, or volunteers and act as a role model especially in the areas of health, safety and child guidance. Coordinates with all coordinators to complete assigned projects or tasks. Ensures that all staff practice appropriate guidance for assigned age group and that respect and caring is demonstrated for each child at all times.
May act as daily coordinator for the center on a rotating basis as assigned. Coordinates staffing by ensuring that teacher/child ratios are in compliance at all times. Plans for staffing for the following day. Covers breaks as necessary and responds to time-off requests in a timely manner. Maintains sick/absence communications to teachers and manages ill/injured children in compliance with established guidelines.
Education
Bachelor's Degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, or related field such as Human Development, or Family Studies or Child Care Administration - Preferred
High School Diploma or GED - Required
Current Child Development Associate (CDA) from the Council for Professional Recognition or Early Childhood Certificate from an accredited college with 1-2 years teaching experience or Associates Degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, or related field - Required
Experience
1 to 2 years as teacher or equivalent - Required
2 years as lead teacher or equivalent - Preferred
Licenses and Certifications
Driver License - Required
Fingerprint Clearance Card - State Current Arizona Dept. of Health Services Fingerprint Clearance Card Upon Hire - Required
Current Child Care First Aid within 7 days of date of hire into position - Required
Food Handlers Card current within 7 days of employment - Required
Must satisfy all of the above requirements in addition to having at least 2 years teacher or lead teacher experience at a licensed child card facility.
