Instructor, Motorcycle Safety - Adjunct Full Time/Part Time Teaching faculty at Guilford Technical Community College (GTCC) are responsible for supporting student success by creating an optimum learning environment, responding to student needs, managing effective instructional activities, modeling employability skills, demonstrating professionalism, developing cooperative work relationships with other faculty and staff, supporting college administrative requirements, and maintaining competency in their instructional field. They will be responsible for quality instruction and for effective participation and interest in the total affairs of the college.

Under general supervision of the director for community service programs, the instructor will teach motorcycle safety courses within the community education programs, which could include day, evenings or weekend classes. The community service program consists of a wide variety of personal enrichment classes and special programs designed to meet a multiplicity of life‑long learning educational needs within the Guilford County community.

Duties/Functions Teaching

Develop learner‑centered lesson plans.

Employ teaching strategies & instructional materials for different learning styles.

Incorporate current technology in classroom, distance learning, and laboratory environments as pedagogically appropriate.

Create and model a quality learning environment that supports a diverse student population.

Prepare, distribute, and utilize instructional support materials, including course syllabi, supplementary materials, instructional media, and other devices as appropriate.

Conduct appropriate assessment of student learning outcomes in courses and programs.

Professional Development

Participate in professional development activities to maintain currency in the field; maintain current credentials or licensures as required by program or accreditation.

Participate in professional development opportunities to advance teaching skills and strategies.

Administration

Maintain classroom and laboratory spaces, including upkeep of assigned equipment.

Provide for the security of facilities, equipment, and instructional materials and maintain safe working conditions.

Maintain student records (e.g., grades and attendance) using a variety of technology‑based programs (e.g., Colleague, WebAdvisor, Moodle).

Comply with all applicable college, state and federal rules and regulations.

Student Support

Address student concerns in a timely manner.

Promote retention/persistence by assisting students to develop strategies for success.

Refer students to campus and community resources when appropriate.

Demonstrate and model the College's employability skills: adaptability, communication, information processing, problem solving, responsibility and teamwork.

Additional Duties and Responsibilities Perform all duties as assigned by supervisor.

Difficult Challenges Contacts Education Required

High School Diploma or GED graduate.

Certified through the Motorcycle Safety Foundation (MSF).

Education Preferred

Associate Degree from a regionally accredited post‑secondary institution.

Experience Required

Teaching and/or industry training experience.

Experience Preferred

Experience with general motorcycle maintenance.

KSA Preferred Department/Job Specific Requirements

Maintain certification in accordance with the Motorcycle Safety Foundation (MSF) Program and the North Carolina Motorcycle Safety Education Program (NCMSEP).

Teach a minimum of three classes per year, either the Basic Rider Course (BRC) or Basic Rider Experience (BRC2).

Attend an annual update training as required by MSF and GTCC.

Mandatory GTCC Trainings (upon initial hire) and annual updates as required

Physical Demands

Primarily teaching evening and weekend hours on Jamestown GTCC campus.

Classroom setting and outdoor track.

Other Criminal history checks, with acceptable results, are required.
