We are a well-established Mechanical company seeking an experienced, hands‑on Accounting Manager to manage all financial transactions and lead our accounting operations. This individual will report directly to the Corporate CFO, with a dotted line to President, and will oversee daily financial activities, financial reporting, budgeting, and ensuring compliance with applicable regulations. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in accounting and finance, with at least 5 years of experience in a similar role, and familiarity with Sage Intacct.

Location: Hampton, VA
Key Responsibilities
- Accounting and Financial Reporting: maintain accurate financial records and ensure compliance with relevant accounting standards (GAAP or other applicable standards).
- Prepare monthly financial data, analyze financial performance and provide insights to leadership.
- General Ledger Management: perform all general ledger activities, including journal entries, account reconciliations, and month‑end closing processes; ensure all transactions are accurately recorded in a timely manner.
- Budgeting and Forecasting: develop and manage annual budgets and forecasts; monitor and report on budget variances and provide recommendations for cost‑saving measures or revenue enhancement.
- Cash Flow and Banking: reconcile bank accounts and manage cash balances.
- Accounts Payable/Receivable: oversee and perform accounts payable and receivable functions to ensure timely and accurate processing of invoices, payments, and collections; coordinate with internal and external parties to resolve any discrepancies.
- Payroll Processing: oversee and ensure accurate and timely processing of payroll, including managing payroll taxes and benefits.
- Job Costing and Project Accounting: track and allocate costs to specific projects or jobs (mechanical services, contracts, etc.); ensure accurate job costing and report on project profitability.
- Internal Controls and Compliance: implement and maintain internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure financial accuracy; ensure compliance with tax regulations and oversee the preparation of tax returns.
- Reporting and Analysis: provide monthly financial reports to senior management, including analysis of key performance indicators (KPIs) and financial trends.
- Ad Hoc Financial Analysis: assist with financial modeling, cost analysis, and any special reports or financial analysis as required by senior management.
Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (required).
- Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience in a senior accounting role; experience in the mechanical, construction, or similar industry is a plus.
- Software Experience: Experience with Sage Intacct accounting software (strongly preferred).
- Skills: strong knowledge of accounting principles, financial regulations, and reporting standards; proficient in accounting software (preferably Sage Intacct) and Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, etc.); solid understanding of budgeting, financial analysis, and forecasting; experience with tax filing and compliance; ability to handle sensitive financial information with discretion; excellent communication and interpersonal skills to interact with internal teams and external partners.
