We are a well-established Mechanical company seeking an experienced, hands‑on Accounting Manager to manage all financial transactions and lead our accounting operations. This individual will report directly to the Corporate CFO, with a dotted line to President, and will oversee daily financial activities, financial reporting, budgeting, and ensuring compliance with applicable regulations. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in accounting and finance, with at least 5 years of experience in a similar role, and familiarity with Sage Intacct.

Job Title: Accounting Manager

Location: Hampton, VA

Key Responsibilities

Accounting and Financial Reporting: maintain accurate financial records and ensure compliance with relevant accounting standards (GAAP or other applicable standards).

Prepare monthly financial data, analyze financial performance and provide insights to leadership.

General Ledger Management: perform all general ledger activities, including journal entries, account reconciliations, and month‑end closing processes; ensure all transactions are accurately recorded in a timely manner.

Budgeting and Forecasting: develop and manage annual budgets and forecasts; monitor and report on budget variances and provide recommendations for cost‑saving measures or revenue enhancement.

Cash Flow and Banking: reconcile bank accounts and manage cash balances.

Accounts Payable/Receivable: oversee and perform accounts payable and receivable functions to ensure timely and accurate processing of invoices, payments, and collections; coordinate with internal and external parties to resolve any discrepancies.

Payroll Processing: oversee and ensure accurate and timely processing of payroll, including managing payroll taxes and benefits.

Job Costing and Project Accounting: track and allocate costs to specific projects or jobs (mechanical services, contracts, etc.); ensure accurate job costing and report on project profitability.

Internal Controls and Compliance: implement and maintain internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure financial accuracy; ensure compliance with tax regulations and oversee the preparation of tax returns.

Reporting and Analysis: provide monthly financial reports to senior management, including analysis of key performance indicators (KPIs) and financial trends.

Ad Hoc Financial Analysis: assist with financial modeling, cost analysis, and any special reports or financial analysis as required by senior management.

Qualifications

Education: Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (required).

Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience in a senior accounting role; experience in the mechanical, construction, or similar industry is a plus.

Software Experience: Experience with Sage Intacct accounting software (strongly preferred).

Skills: strong knowledge of accounting principles, financial regulations, and reporting standards; proficient in accounting software (preferably Sage Intacct) and Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, etc.); solid understanding of budgeting, financial analysis, and forecasting; experience with tax filing and compliance; ability to handle sensitive financial information with discretion; excellent communication and interpersonal skills to interact with internal teams and external partners.
