DWTSurge Contract CA Employment Litigation Attorney
Davis Wright Tremaine LLP is seeking an experienced mid‑to‑senior level employment litigation attorney for engagement through the firm’s alternative‑track contract attorney and staffing program, DWTSurge.
The selected attorney will work with the Employment Services practice group handling single plaintiff litigation and PAGA/class action litigation matters.
Attorneys based in and admitted to practice in California are preferred.
The role is fully remote, with an anticipated 20‑40 hours per week, and offers flexibility to accommodate West Coast business hours.
Pay Range $155.00/hr – $190.00/hr (based on skills and experience)
Work Arrangement • Fully remote work • 20‑40 hours per week, hours may fluctuate • Contract term anticipated to ends late February or early March 2026 with a possibility of extension or renewal, not guaranteed • No employee benefits or firm pro bono/DEI opportunities due to DWTSurge program structure
Responsibilities The selected attorney will assist the firm’s Employment Services group with California employment litigation matters, focusing on employment defense litigation, single plaintiff litigation, and class/PAGA litigation.
Responsibilities include drafting motions and discovery, and working directly with client teams, counterparties, and other stakeholders to support large institutional clients.
The attorney must be highly organized, manage multiple matters with competing deadlines, work independently while collaborating with lawyers and support staff, and exercise good judgment to meet discrete litigation objectives within short deadlines.
Ideal Candidate
5+ years of employment litigation experience in a mid‑large law firm or in‑house setting
Residency and active bar admission in California
Strong experience managing employment defense, single plaintiff, and PAGA or class action litigation cases
Demonstrated understanding of California and federal employment laws and regulations
Experience representing client interests when meeting and conferring with various stakeholders, including opposing counsel
Excellent legal drafting and communication skills, including oral and written advocacy
Ability to distill research into meaningful and persuasive written work product, and to ensure high quality with minimal supervision
High responsiveness and client service abilities
Availability to work 20‑40 hours per week and maintain PST business hours, with flexibility for fluctuating hours
Ability to work remotely and handle high‑volume litigation matters efficiently
Excellent interpersonal and proactive communication skills with clients, firm members, and business contacts
