Job Title Position: Speech Pathologist (SLP), Weekend - Per Diem

Location: Hackensack University Medical Center (Hackensack, New Jersey)

The Speech Language Pathologist is responsible for the evaluation and treatment of individuals with communication and swallowing disorders within the scope of practice defined by the State of New Jersey Division of Consumer Affairs. The SLP is engaged in the processes of coordination, education, communication, and documentation to ensure that the patient receives comprehensive, individualized, evidence‑based services. Settings may include inpatient (acute & rehab) and/or outpatient. The position may rotate to other services per program guidelines. The incumbent also performs other professional duties and participates in department/facility/network initiatives based on needs and opportunity.

Responsibilities

Prepares for patient evaluation in accordance with departmental policies/procedures and standards of practice, including obtaining patient history, administering appropriate tests, and accurately measuring results.

Integrates evaluation results, behavioral observations and history to develop diagnostic impressions, goals, and recommendations.

Establishes a plan of care with the patient/family based on functional, measurable, and realistic short‑ and long‑term goals.

Performs therapeutic treatment for all age groups within departmental responsibility, using a systematic approach to clinical decision making.

Utilizes reassessment to modify goals, progress treatment, or recommend discontinuation of therapy.

Adapts care to the needs of the patient population served, communicating appropriately with patients, parents, or caregivers.

Documents in accordance with policies and procedures, collecting accurate data that reflects reimbursement systems.

Handles physical requirements: lifts, pushes, pulls a minimum of 50 lbs. and stands a minimum of 1 hour per day.

Other duties and/or projects as assigned.

Adheres to HMH organizational competencies, standards of behavior, and departmental policies and procedures.

Qualifications Required

Master’s Degree in Speech‑Language Pathology from an accredited institution.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Proficient computer skills (Microsoft Office, Google Suite).

Preferred

Doctoral Degree in Speech‑Language Pathology.

Experience: Candidate background preferred; entry‑level acceptable.

Licenses & Certifications Required

Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech‑Language Pathology (CCC‑SPL) issued by the American Speech‑Language and Hearing Association.

Eligibility for temporary or permanent license in the State of New Jersey as an SLP.

AHA Basic Health Care Life Support, HCP Certification (new hires effective 01/01/2024).

Preferred

Specialty certifications.

Working Conditions Lifts a minimum of 10 lbs., pushes and pulls a minimum of 10 lbs., and stands a minimum of 3 hours per day.

Compensation Flat rate: $1,417.10 annually. Additional components may include performance‑based incentives, bonuses, or commissions and shift differentials for evening, night, or weekend shifts. Compensation may vary based on market data, experience, education, certification, geographic location, internal equity, and budget considerations.

In addition to base pay, full‑time and part‑time positions (20+ hours/week) offer a comprehensive benefits package including health, dental, vision, paid leave, tuition reimbursement, and retirement benefits.
