Responsibilities
Collect blood, process specimens, and perform reference laboratory processing in laboratory testing.
Perform related techniques, such as blood glucose tests and blood cultures.
Prepare samples for testing and manage specimens in the laboratory information system.
Prepare and ship reference laboratory specimens and resolve pending specimens and pending transports.
Monitor test ordering patients and requisitions to ensure compliance with outpatient laboratory testing.
Minimum Qualifications
High School Diploma or GED.
Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification from the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross.
Proficient in blood collection from patients of all age groups.
Preferred Qualifications
One year of college or equivalent.
Six months of experience in Phlebotomy and Laboratory Processing.
Blood collection experience.
Lab experience.
Physical Requirements
Position is primarily mobile in nature.
Average lifting of 10 pounds with occasional carrying up to 20 pounds.
Requires bending, stooping, and standing for short periods while performing venipuncture and charting.
Excellent communication skills in spoken, written, and typed form.
Requires finger dexterity and eye‑hand coordination to operate a computer keyboard.
Mental demands: ability to work at a fast pace, prioritize multiple assignments, solve conflicts, and collaborate with department leaders and other health‑care team members.
Special demands: use of personal protective equipment due to potential exposure to biohazardous or infectious agents.
Confidentiality: access to patient medical records is limited to what is reasonably necessary for laboratory testing.
