Responsibilities
Review and verify case cart prior to case.
Maintain an orderly surgical field and pass instruments and supplies quickly and efficiently to the surgeon.
Anticipate and prioritize the needs of the procedure steps.
Participate in sponge, needle, and instrument counts as dictated by the procedure.
Maintain the surgical specimen for pathology evaluation.
Assist in ordering and stocking specialty supplies under management staff direction and departmental guidelines.
Transport and deliver items, equipment, and medications (excluding controlled substances and IV chemotherapy drugs) throughout the facility.
Have limited access to areas storing medications.
Maintain reasonable, punctual attendance consistent with Orlando Health policies, ADA, FMLA, and other federal, state, and local standards.
Maintain compliance with all Orlando Health policies and procedures.
Participate in Environments of Care Quality Indicators (Q1) activities as assigned.
Demonstrate awareness of legal issues, patient rights, and compliance with regulatory and accrediting agencies.
Practice efficient use of supplies.
Maintain a clear, safe, and organized unit.
Qualifications Education/Training
High school graduate or equivalent.
Successful completion of Surgical Technology training program; or U. S. Military Medical Core Training; or equivalent on‑the‑job training program with 7 years recent surgical tech experience.
Licensure/Certification
National certification as Surgical Technologist within six months of hire date from one of the following:
Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) by the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) – renewed every 4 years.
Tech in Surgery – Certified by the National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT) – renewed annually.
Current BLS/HealthCare Provider certification.
Experience
1-4 years of experience as a Surgical Tech required, preferably in an ambulatory care setting.
