MANTECH
Overview
Biometrics Engineer
– MANTECH Location:
Ashburn, VA
(hybrid: 2 days onsite, 3 days remote). This role supports U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) by designing and deploying AI‑driven biometric systems that manage the massive flow of people, capital, and products entering and exiting the United States. Responsibilities
Lead the design and implementation of advanced AI‑driven biometric recognition systems (facial, fingerprint, iris) for high‑security, large‑scale applications. Develop cutting‑edge computer vision algorithms (object detection, tracking, segmentation, re‑identification) and translate research findings into practical solutions. Architect pipelines to ingest, process, and fuse multimodal biometric data (facial, fingerprint, voice), and deploy predictive models (classification, clustering, deep learning). Design and implement Approximate Nearest Neighbor (ANN) algorithms (HNSW, LSH, Faiss, Annoy) to optimize large‑scale similarity search and real‑time predictive performance. Develop novel evaluation metrics and benchmark datasets to rigorously test algorithms, and collaborate with cross‑functional teams to integrate biometric technologies into secure, scalable architectures. Minimum Qualifications
Education: HS/GED (20+ yrs) or AS/AA (18+ yrs) or BS/BA (12+ yrs) or MS/MA/MBA (9+ yrs) or PhD (7+ yrs).
5+ yrs
of experience in computer vision, machine learning, or biometrics. Expertise in biometric modalities (face, iris, fingerprint, voice) and image processing/segmentation. Strong knowledge of ANN search algorithms (HNSW, FAISS, Annoy) and deep learning frameworks (PyTorch, TensorFlow, Keras). Proficient programming in Python, C++, or Java with performance optimization focus. Preferred Qualifications
Experience building scalable biometric matching systems with millions of identities. Publications or patents in computer vision/biometric recognition. Hands‑on cloud experience (AWS, Azure, GCP) and secure, scalable software architecture design. Knowledge of CBP enterprise systems and data security, privacy, and compliance requirements. Clearance Requirements
Must be a U.S. citizen and obtain/maintain a DHS/CBP Security Clearance. Physical Requirements
Occasional movement inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, or communicate with coworkers, management, and customers. May involve delivering presentations.
