House of Sorcery is a growing multi-disciplinary art & design studio. We concept, develop and produce commercial projects through an art lens. HOS creates artworks, designs and installations for a variety of clients across many industries. We have an opening for an Environmental Technical Designer to support our creative and production teams. The ideal candidate is experienced in bringing physical builds to life from the design stage through to fabrication. They consider all aspects, needs and feasibility of the build to capture it in digital form. They have a curiosity to experiment with different approaches, materials, and possibilities as well as a knack for being hands‑on with materials, hardware and sampling. This role is suited to a curious, self‑driven, experienced, collaborative individual with an eye for detail & accuracy.

The Environmental Technical Designer has an active role across many projects & throughout each phase; concept design, design development and production. 100% of this role’s project assignments will be for physical builds and therefore require solid experience in the built environment. Many projects incorporate large scale dimensional builds, lighting, and structural support. This role will focus primarily on technical aspects, samples, and the lead‑up to production, bridging the design‑build gap between Design Development & Production/Installation. This role supports projects early on by anticipating design‑related technical needs for instruction, details, samples and the build. They help assess feasibility, concept proof, and the way we get there as a team. They develop the technical documentation to bring the project to life. This role spends around 50% of their time on technical in technical programs: Tech & creative collaboration, 3D CAD modeling, 2D drafting, assembling tech packs, installation instructions, prepping files for outsource to vendors, and building cut files. The remaining 50%; project creative reviews, site visits/measurements, sample collaboration/design/problem solving, sample testing, sample fabrication support, production collaboration & fabrication support, occasional vendor support, and researching hardware & materials.

This person is organized, proactive, accurate, thorough and detail oriented. They often get their hands dirty in the studio, assisting with samples and helping the studio see the design through to execution. They balance multiple project requests at a time, each in different project phases, and therefore must be very structured, disciplined, proficient in our tools/systems, and very communicative. This person has a creative curiosity, is adaptable to change, and is excited to help evolve this growing company.
