Overview The Northrop Grumman Microelectronics Center (NGMC) seeks a Principal / Senior Principal Controls Software Design Engineer to work on complex, multi‑segment systems. The role will be at the Integrated Product Team (IPT) level, supporting the segment level software design, progressing engineering reviews (SRR, SFR, SDR, PDR, CDR, SVR, TRR), and collaborating with other engineering functions.
Responsibilities
Lead software design focused on controls software for large system segments.
Support software design team lead and partner with cross‑functional teams to mature the segment.
Participate in critical engineering reviews and milestones.
Serve on‑site in the greater Baltimore, MD area.
Qualifications – Principal
Bachelor’s degree in a STEM discipline with at least 5 years experience, 3 years with master’s, or 1 year with PhD.
Familiarity with command and control or controls system software.
Proficiency in real‑time embedded software.
Experience implementing requirements and interface definitions in software, performing code and unit testing.
Understanding of software design principles, computer architecture, and relevant technologies.
Excellent written and oral communication skills.
U.S. citizenship required.
Active DoD TS/SCI clearance with polygraph.
Qualifications – Senior Principal
Bachelor’s degree in a STEM discipline with at least 8 years experience, 6 years with master’s, or 4 years with PhD.
Familiarity with command and control or controls system software.
Proficiency in real‑time embedded software.
Experience implementing requirements and interface definitions in software, performing code and unit testing.
Understanding of software design principles, computer architecture, and relevant technologies.
Excellent written and oral communication skills.
U.S. citizenship required.
Active DoD TS/SCI clearance with polygraph.
Preferred Qualifications
Current active DoD TS/SCI with polygraph clearance.
Full software lifecycle experience.
Knowledge of design principles and patterns.
Familiarity with Model‑Based Systems Engineering languages (SysML/UML).
Hardware/software integration and test planning/execution experience.
Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, Cypress, Visual Studio, Python, C/C++.
Experience with GitLab, Nexus, Trivy, SonarQube, Doxygen.
Familiarity with Jira, Confluence and agile methodologies.
Compensation & Benefits
Primary Level Salary Range: $110,300 – $165,500.
Secondary Level Salary Range: $137,400 – $206,000.
Possible overtime, shift differential, discretionary bonus, and long‑term incentives for higher levels.

Annual bonus program based on performance.
