Department Summary The Department of Criminal Justice and Sociology offers multiple undergraduate and graduate programs, including Emergency Services Administration. The programs combine curriculum with experiential learning to prepare graduates for immediate impact.

Position Overview Program Director will lead the new UNT Dallas National ESA program and teach two courses per semester. Responsibilities include recruiting, advising, hiring adjuncts, building partnerships with federal, state, and local agencies, and managing the program’s academic excellence.

Minimum Qualifications

Master’s degree in Fire Science, Paramedicine, Emergency Management, or closely related field.

5‑7 years significant work experience in fire service, emergency medical services, or emergency management.

Evidence of excellence in teaching and curriculum development.

Demonstrated skill in program recruitment and management.

Effective written and verbal communication skills.

Ability to develop academic or professional programs.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities The ideal candidate supports UNT Dallas’s Classroom to Career initiative, strengthening industry partnerships and embedding experiential learning, AI fluency, and essential power skills into the curriculum.

Preferred Qualifications

Doctoral or terminal degree in Fire Science, Paramedicine, or Emergency Management (or completion within 5 years).

Experience in at least two areas of fire science, EMS, or emergency management.

Academic experience at a university or community college.

Teaching experience in Fire Science, Paramedicine, or Emergency Management.

Curriculum and program development experience.

Licensed as a Registered Paramedic/NREMT or equivalent by the Texas Commission on Fire Protection or Texas Department of Health.

Job Duties

Direct daily operations of the ESA program under the Dean of LAS.

Recruit and advise prospective students.

Develop articulation agreements with community colleges and technical schools.

Prepare monthly and annual reports.

Maintain compliance with UNT Dallas policies.

Expand program partnerships.

Hire, supervise, and evaluate adjunct faculty.

Oversee curriculum development and assessment.

Represent the program at professional conferences.

Teach two courses per semester.

Collaborate with marketing and communications on program promotion.

Coordinate with first‑responder programs for enrollment.

Facilitate job talks and teaching demonstrations with finalists.
