Moss Utilities is a Dallas‑Fort Worth based, employee‑owned company specializing in underground utility installations for commercial, residential, multi‑family, and public‑works projects. The Accounting Manager will report to the Senior Finance Manager and oversee core accounting functions while collaborating with Operations and IT.

Position Overview The Accounting Manager is responsible for managing the general ledger, month‑end close, financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and fixed‑asset accounting. This role ensures the accuracy of financial information and supports decision‑making organization‑wide while building scalable systems as the company grows.

Responsibilities

Manage month‑end and year‑end close processes.

Reconcile all general ledger accounts, prepare, review, and approve journal entries.

Maintain and update the company debt schedule, ensuring accurate interest and principal allocations.

Prepare monthly financial statements, internal reporting packages, variance analyses, and commentary.

Provide insights into cost trends and financial impacts on project performance.

Maintain the fixed asset schedule, internal fixed asset module, and related depreciation entries.

Coordinate asset additions, disposals, and audits with Operations.

Lead the annual budgeting cycle and periodic financial forecasts.

Work collaboratively with Project Managers and Operations leaders to support performance monitoring.

Partner with Operations and IT to evaluate and implement improved accounting workflows, reporting tools, and ERP enhancements.

Strengthen internal controls and develop scalable financial processes aligned with company growth.

Provide guidance, mentorship, and day‑to‑day support to accounting staff.

Serve as a finance partner to Operations, Project Management, and IT teams with a focus on transparency and communication.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA or CCIFP preferred or actively pursuing.

5–8 years of progressive accounting experience (GL, close, financial reporting, budgeting), ideally in construction, utilities, or project‑based environments.

Deep understanding of GAAP, fixed‑asset accounting, depreciation/amortization, and financial statement preparation.

Strong system orientation: proficiency in Excel (pivot tables, dashboards) and working knowledge of Viewpoint Spectrum, with a desire to improve systems.

Excellent communication skills, with the ability to partner across departments and explain financials to non‑finance stakeholders.

Highly organized, detail‑oriented, and self‑motivated, able to manage multiple priorities in a growth environment.

Location: Dallas, TX Salary: $115,000.00 – $195,000.00 (annual base plus benefits)
