Overview
This is a Labor Service Position.
Brief Job Description Responsible for the installation, erection, and painting of signs, poles, traffic control devices, and appurtenances; paints and marks loading zones and other traffic lane lines on the street, pavement, and curbs, applies plastic stripping.
Responsibilities
Operates lane marking machines; excavates and prepares the ground for the erection of signs, meters, and signal posts; straightens poles with appropriate tools.
Maintains, installs, and removes pedestrian delineators.
Assists with the placement of VMS boards.
Operates hand, electric, and hydraulic‑powered tools and compressors.
Maintains a record of all completed work performed by the work crew.
Participates in the fabrication of signs as directed by all sign shop employees in a higher grade, the Sign Shop Supervisor, and/or the Director of Operations.
Performs related duties as required.
May be required to work during an emergency as determined by the Commissioner or designee.
Minimum Entrance Qualifications
Two (2) years of experience in work related to the fabrication, installation, erection, and painting of signs, plus traffic control devices and appurtenances.
Ability to exercise good judgment and focus on detail as required by the job.
Certificate Requirement
Must have and maintain a current and valid Massachusetts Motor Vehicle Operator's License.
Must provide a copy of the Massachusetts Motor Vehicle Operator's License, Class D.
Must provide the current Registry of Motor Vehicles Driving Record at the time of the interview.
Boston Residency Required Individuals wishing to be considered for this position must complete the Civil Service Labor Service registration process for the position at http://www.mass.gov/hrd/macs in addition to completing the City of Boston Career Center application.
