Packaging Systems Design Engineer II
– Dennis Group Base Pay Range
$95,000.00/yr – $115,000.00/yr Job Summary
Packaging Engineers work closely with process, controls, and building system engineers to scope, layout, install, and commission packaging equipment lines for food and beverage industry clients. Dennis Group is a design‑build engineering firm and general contractor that designs and builds food and beverage processing facilities. Packaging Engineers define equipment requirements, estimate costs, create flow diagrams, provide onsite construction support, and lead equipment start‑up and commissioning. Responsibilities
Design
Create basis of design and scope of work documents Develop design concepts Develop functional specifications for packaging lines Work with sanitary design concepts Create AutoCAD equipment layouts Interpret mechanical design requirements and customer specifications Review vendor shop drawings and coordination drawings
Engineering
Develop packaging flow diagrams, material balances, packaging matrices, equipment specifications, OEE documents, speed matrices, and V‑Curves Develop budget estimates Create and follow up on equipment bid packages Maintain delivery and installation schedules Understand support equipment size and placement Apply manufacturing and packaging design principles Design systems for conveyance, wrapping, bagging, cartoning, filling, bottling, case packing, and palletizing Assist in process simulation Develop procurement documents for packaging equipment Assist with machine and process design Prepare machine testing requirements and procedures
Site Work
Survey existing conditions Coordinate on‑site construction for installation and commissioning Supervise equipment vendors and installation crews Attend client meetings Lead vendor shop acceptance testing Coaching and mentoring to a subordinate group when directed by supervisor
Have been part of a project team that installed a packaging system with components such as conveyance, wrapping, bagging, cartoning, filling, bottling, case packing, or palletizing Required Education, Skills, and Experience
Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, packaging, industrial, or manufacturing engineering 4+ years of work experience in a related field Must meet travel requirement – at least 50% of the year on‑site construction project coordination and management Proficiency with MS Office, MS Project, and AutoCAD Excellent oral and written communication skills Positive, can‑do, team‑oriented attitude Strong problem‑solving, organizing, and time‑management skills Experience in project definition, equipment design/layout, process design, machine testing procedures, installation, and commissioning of equipment Experience with food and beverage manufacturing, food and beverage design firms, or professional engineering firms is a plus Physical Requirements
Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times Travel Requirement
