What to Expect
The Power Electronics team is seeking a skilled Industrial Electrician to support the development and testing of Tesla's power electronics systems. As a key member of our team, you will collaborate with Engineers to set up and maintain lab electrical setups for testing medium voltage (up to 40kV) components, ensuring safe and effective validation of innovative technologies and designs. As an Industrial Electrician, you will play a critical role in ensuring the safety and efficiency of our lab operations, combining electrical expertise with a methodical approach to setup, testing, and continuous improvement.
What You'll Do
Support the setup and maintenance of lab test environments for medium voltage (up to 40kV) systems, including wiring, connections, and equipment configuration to enable engineer‑led testing and validation of power electronics technology and designs
Implement and enforce safety practices, including developing and updating lab operating procedures to comply with high‑voltage safety standards and Tesla's EH&S policies
Provide feedback on test setups, designs, and processes to identify improvements in efficiency, safety, and performance, contributing to design enhancements and iterative development
Perform hands‑on troubleshooting and analysis of electrical and electromechanical systems in medium voltage environments to identify root causes of issues and implement corrective actions
Ensure all testing activities adhere to safety protocols and industry standards, particularly for medium voltage applications, including lockout/tagout procedures and PPE requirements
Assist in the assembly, testing, and analysis of engineering prototypes to validate design assumptions and uncover opportunities for improvement
Operate, maintain, and calibrate electrical test equipment, ensuring accuracy and reliability in medium voltage testing processes
Identify opportunities for process improvements in lab operations and implement changes to increase efficiency, productivity, and safety
Work closely with cross‑functional teams, including design, reliability, and test engineers, to address technical challenges and support product development
Manage material inventory related to electrical setups, including procurement and organization of components for high‑voltage testing
What You'll Bring
Extensive practical experience as an industrial electrician, with a strong background in medium voltage systems (up to 40kV), including installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting
Proven experience or familiarity with high‑voltage safety protocols, testing, and validation in lab or industrial environments
Proficient in electrical fabrication, expert‑level skills with hand and power tools, and experience with wiring harnesses, connectors, and medium voltage equipment
Ability to disassemble and reassemble electrical systems independently, demonstrating strong technical aptitude in medium voltage applications
Familiarity with standard electronics lab tools, including AC/DC meters, data acquisition systems, oscilloscopes, and high‑voltage testing instruments
Strong problem‑solving abilities, particularly in troubleshooting and root cause analysis for electrical systems in medium voltage contexts
Excellent written communication skills, with experience in documenting test setups, safety procedures, and feedback on designs
Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a cross‑functional team, with strong self‑direction and initiative
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs., with frequent standing, walking, and bending in a fast‑paced lab environment
Certification as an industrial electrician (e.g., journeyman level) and experience with CAD software or electrical design tools is a plus
