Job Description
Vapor Systems Technologies, Inc. is seeking a full-time, direct hire engineer to support all departments in defining, developing, and sustaining products and production equipment for the retail fueling industry. The ideal candidate will have expertise in the design of analog and digital PCBs for applications involving 120 VAC, relay and solenoid control, intrinsically safe environments, and resilience to high voltage transients, ESD, voltage surges, and grounding issues as well as mixed‑signal circuit design, power electronics, and EMC compliance, with proficiency in specified design tools. Experience with PLCs for interfacing with industrial control systems is a plus.
Education BS Electrical Engineering, or Computer Science
Job Responsibilities Production Support
Collaborative effort with other engineering entities to design, build, and validate new production support equipment.
Troubleshoot production equipment as required to identify problems and implement corrective measures.
Continually evaluate production equipment and processes to identify areas of improvement.
Identify and maintain a critical component inventory to ensure quick repairs of production equipment.
Ability in programming PLC, HMI, Motion Control, Pneumatics, Hydraulics, and other types of electronic devices.
Product Development
Able to take lead role in electrical component identification, digital and analog circuit design/analysis, PCB design, CAD documentation, and programming requirements of machine controls for VST proprietary equipment as necessary.
Clear and concise communication with company management on responsibility developments.
Write functional design requirement specifications, including safety standards, which can include hazardous location requirements based on expected functionality.
Involvement in defining software testing requirements and procedures.
Limited travel as required.
Qualifications
Digital and Analog Circuit Design and Analysis: Expertise in designing mixed‑signal circuits for 120 VAC systems, including relays and solenoids, with analysis using OrCAD, PSpice, or LTspice.
Printed Circuit Board (PCB) Design: Proficiency in PCB layout for high‑voltage and mixed‑signal systems, ensuring IPC‑2221 compliance, using KiCad, Altium Designer, EasyEDA, or Eagle.
Power Electronics Converters: Knowledge of AC‑DC, DC‑DC, DC‑AC converters, and motor drive circuits for efficient power management.
EMI/EMC/RFI Design and Mitigation: Expertise in EMI/RFI attenuation, filter design, and surge suppression, compliant with IEC 61000‑4 (e.g., IEC 61000‑4‑2, ‑4, ‑5).
ESD and High‑Frequency Transient Suppression: Proficiency in designing circuits to withstand ESD and transients, including snubber circuits for inductive loads.
Intrinsically Safe Design: Familiarity with ATEX, IECEx, or UL 913 standards for hazardous environments, using IS barriers and energy‑limiting techniques.
Grounding and Noise Mitigation: Expertise in grounding techniques (e.g., star grounding, ground planes) and signal integrity for noise reduction.
Safety and Regulatory Compliance: Knowledge of UL, CE, NEC, and hazardous location certifications.
Testing and Validation: Proficiency in testing PCBs for functionality, EMC, and reliability using oscilloscopes, multimeters, and spectrum analyzers.
Documentation and Collaboration: Strong skills in creating schematics, BOMs, and reports, and collaborating with mechanical engineers and a software programmer.
PLC Experience (Desirable): Familiarity with PLCs (e.g., Allen‑Bradley, Siemens, Unitronics) for interfacing PCBs with industrial control systems is a plus.
Schematic Capture and PCB Layout:
KiCad, Altium Designer, EasyEDA, or Eagle
Circuit Simulation and Analysis:
OrCAD, PSpice, or LTspice for circuit simulation and transient analysis
