Senior Mainframe Developer
for a long‑term contract opportunity located in
Raleigh, NC .
Hybrid work environment. On‑call availability for nightly batch processes, including weekdays and weekends.
Responsibilities
Support several mission‑critical systems and processes.
Provide technical expertise for ongoing interface operations, inquiry‑only applications, the Child Placement and Payment System (CPPS), and Central Registry applications for the Child Welfare program.
Support PATH NC Data Conversion activities.
Lead data conversion efforts and implement application enhancements based on evolving business needs.
Diagnose and resolve application issues and provide production support using technologies such as CICS, COBOL, DB2, JCL, VSAM, stored procedures, and other mainframe tools.
Senior‑level business and systems analysis, modeling and design, and programming using COBOL, CICS, and DB2.
Participate in effort estimation, consulting and planning for system modifications and enhancements, and monitoring technical activities to ensure alignment with schedules, milestones, and deliverables.
Provide regular status updates, time reporting, and ensure quality assurance and compliance with state, departmental, and divisional standards.
Required Skills
10 Years – Experience in software development and debugging using mainframe technologies such as COBOL, CICS, JCL, DB2, TSO, VSAM.
7 Years – Hands‑on experience in programming using DB2(Z/OS), DB2 SQLs, stored procedures.
7 Years – Experience with source code management tool like Endevor.
5 Years – Experience with QMF, SPUFI, and FILEAID/CA‑tools.
5 Years – Extensive experience in debugging COBOL/DB2 application code using tools like XPEDITOR/CA‑Intertest.
4 Years – Experience with X/PTR (reporting tool).
5 Years – Experience with Zeke or similar job scheduler tools.
5 Years – Experience with structured system development methodologies such as agile (preferred), waterfall.
7 Years – Experience in understanding and gathering business requirements, reviewing specifications, developing test cases, and performing unit/system testing.
5 Years – Excellent written and presentation skills using Microsoft Office tools (Word, PowerPoint and Excel).
5 Years – Ability to develop good working relationships/partnerships with clients.
5 Years – Ability to translate and communicate highly technical concepts to both technical and non‑IT business users.
5 Years – Excellent interpersonal, communication, organizational and time management skills.
2 Years – Participate in on‑call support for nightly batch processes.
Desired Skill
1 Year – Experience with CA‑Easytrieve/Plus.
