Job Description The ISSO is responsible for ensuring the appropriate operational security posture is maintained for an information system and works in close collaboration with the ISSM and ISO. The position has detailed knowledge and expertise required to manage the security aspects of an information system and may be assigned responsibility for day‑to‑day security operations. This includes physical and environmental protection, personnel security, incident handling, and security training and awareness. The ISSO coordinates with the ISSM and ISO to monitor the information system(s) and its operating environment, develop and update authorization documentation, implement configuration management, assess security impact of changes, and make recommendations. The primary function is working within Special Access Programs (SAPs) supporting DoD agencies, such as HQ Air Force, Office of the Secretary of Defense, and Military Compartments, supporting Collateral, SCI, SAP activities.
Responsibilities
Assist the ISSM in meeting duties and responsibilities.
Prepare, review, and update authorization packages.
Ensure approved procedures for clearing, sanitizing, and destroying hardware and media.
Notify ISSM of changes affecting authorization determinations.
Conduct periodic reviews to ensure compliance with the security authorization package.
Coordinate hardware, software, or firmware changes with ISSM and AO/DAO prior to change.
Monitor system recovery processes to ensure security features are restored and functioning.
Maintain current IS security‑related documentation for authorized individuals.
Collect, review, and document audit records, including anomalies.
Attend required technical and security training relative to assigned duties.
Execute cyber security portion of self‑inspection, coordinate and review system assessment plans.
Identify cyber security vulnerabilities and assist with implementation of countermeasures.
Prepare status reports on security safeguards applied to computer systems.
Perform ISSO duties for in‑house and external customers.
Conduct security impact analysis and provide results to the ISSM on configuration management changes.
Experience
2–5 years of related experience.
SAP experience required.
Prior performance in roles such as System Administrator, Network Administrator, or ISSO.
Education
Bachelor’s degree or Associate’s degree in a related field plus 2 years of experience, or equivalent experience (4 years).
Certifications
IAT Level II or IAM Level II within 6 months of hire (Security+ CE, CCNA Security, etc.).
Security Clearance
TS/SCI required.
Must be able to attain TS/SCI with CI Polygraph.
Other Requirements
Must be able to regularly lift up to 50 lbs.
Salary Range $86,615 — $117,185 (based on experience, location, and contractual requirements).
Work Hours Scheduled Weekly Hours:
40 hours.
Travel Requirements 10–25% travel.
Telecommuting Options Onsite.
Work Location USA, CO, Colorado Springs.
