A well‑regarded independent accounting and consulting firm in New England is looking for an experienced Tax Manager to lead client engagements, mentor staff, and help grow the practice. This role blends hands‑on tax work with client‑facing advising and people management, and offers a collaborative environment with room for professional growth. What you’ll do
Oversee and deliver multiple tax engagements for mid‑market clients (C Corps, S Corps, partnerships, trusts, and high‑net‑worth individuals). Perform final technical reviews and, where appropriate, sign complex federal and state returns. Act as primary client contact: gather information, provide tax advice, and strengthen client relationships. Supervise and coach team members (from interns through supervisors); lead staff development and conduct performance reviews. Manage engagement economics—scheduling, budgets, billing and reporting to partners. Represent clients in federal and state tax examinations. Lead improvements across the department: streamline workflows, share best practices, and contribute to management initiatives. Support business development and participate in recruitment and client outreach activities. Key qualifications
5+ years of progressive public accounting experience; CPA or JD strongly preferred. BS in Accounting; MST or MBA is a plus. Deep technical knowledge of entity taxation and the ability to independently research and resolve complex tax issues. Proven leadership and project management skills with a track record of developing staff. Strong client focus and excellent written/verbal communication (public speaking is a plus). Comfortable working to deadlines with occasional overtime during peak periods. Experience servicing mid‑market clients and identifying advisory opportunities. How to apply
