Communications Controls Engineer

Join Rose International as a temporary on‑site Communications Controls Engineer located in Newark, NJ. This role focuses on maintaining electrical and automated control systems for machines, substations, and the railroad control center, emphasizing PLC, HMI, SCADA, and system integration. Responsibilities

Maintain and program PLC, HMI, and SCADA codes for systems across machines, processes, and substations. Select hardware, design engineering solutions, and perform factory and site acceptance tests. Provide field support, troubleshooting, and programming assistance to Lead Systems Engineers. Develop communication system designs, including fiber optics, telecom racks, Ethernet switches, HMI and SCADA integration, and cybersecurity configurations. Prepare and review interconnection schedules, bill of materials, and naming sheet documentation. Coordinate operation, maintenance, and repair of equipment and systems on field installations. Use Microsoft Office products for engineering and project management tasks. Adapt to changing project scopes, manage multiple projects, and collaborate cross‑functionally. Qualifications

5+ years of design, development, programming, and field commissioning experience for PLC, HMI, and SCADA systems. 5+ years of experience with industrial communications protocols, including Modbus RTU/TCP, DNP3.0, Ethernet/IP, serial comms (RS‑485, RS‑232, CAN), and ARINC. 5+ years of PLC Ladder Logic reading, tagging, and scripting. Strong analytical skills, including advanced mathematics such as exponents, logarithms, and permutations. 5+ years of writing routine reports, correspondence, and database historian setup. Ability to write routine reports, set up a database historian, and communicate technical information clearly. Knowledge of NERC CIP cybersecurity requirements and substation device configuration.
