RICEFW Technologies Inc is seeking a Controls Engineer for a fully onsite role in Newark, NJ. This position requires daily field activities and technical expertise in PLC, HMI, SCADA, and system integration.

Note:

Fully onsite on the field (no exceptions). Local candidates preferred. Non‑Local candidates must commit to relocation from Day 1.

Overview:

This role combines field engineering with technical responsibilities. You will maintain systems of electrical and automated controls for machines, processes, substations, and railroad control centers.

Responsibilities:

Maintain systems of electrical and automated controls for machines, processes, sub‑stations, and railroad control center.

Program, upload and download PLC, HMI and SCADA codes for backup and achieving.

Select hardware and formulate engineering design based on project requirements.

Review system design for compliance with engineering best practices, regulations, codes, company standards, contract requirements and specifications.

Formulate and perform factory acceptance test plans for completed systems.

Perform site acceptance tests at client job sites.

Provide PLC and HMI programming field support and troubleshooting.

Assist Lead Systems Engineer with controls, SCADA design, FAT scheduling, requirements writing, testing and design review for projects.

Assist Lead Systems Engineer in cost estimation, scope of work, procurement and project execution.

Provide project management assistance for control systems and SCADA.

Direct and coordinate operation, maintenance, and repair of equipment and systems on field installations.

Use Microsoft Office products to perform engineering and project management tasks.

Set up and install communications (Fujitsu servers, switches, protocol converters, firewalls, and modems).

Perform assessments and gather data at existing substations regarding the existing communication equipment life cycle.

Develop design/requirements of communications systems for substations including fiber optics, telecom racks, ethernet switches, alarms, HMI and SCADA systems, cabinet elevations, communications block diagrams, and communications towers and raceways.

Experience with industrial communications protocol, such as Modbus RTU, Modbus TCP, DNP3.0, Ethernet/IP, serial comms (RS‑485, RS‑232 and CAN) and ARINC.

Implement sound cyber security architecture and configurations on substation devices. Apply NERC Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP) compliance requirements.

Create SCADA point lists and RTU programs to be reported through HMIs and Control Center.

Prepare Substation Automation System (SAS) panel interconnections and outdoor equipment wiring and communications cabling and raceways.

Prepare cable schedule.

Develop bill of materials and nameplate schedule.

Review internal communications designs and external design drawings.

Qualifications:

Minimum 5 years of related experience in design, development, programming, and field commissioning.

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical documents including P&IDs, sequence of operations, technical specifications.

Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.

Effectively present information to top management and employees.

Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts such as exponents, logarithms, quadratic equations, and permutations.

MUST be able to read PLC ladder logic, tags and scripts.

MUST be able to set up a database historian.
