Position Title
Assistant Professor – Exercise Science (9‑month tenure‑track, beginning August 2026).
Location Main UNCW Campus.
Overview We seek an outstanding faculty member for a 9‑month tenure‑track position at the rank of Assistant Professor in the Exercise Science program beginning August 2026. The successful candidate will join a roster of fifteen Exercise Science faculty members who serve approximately 680 undergraduate majors. Responsibilities include teaching a variety of undergraduate Exercise Science courses, conducting research, publishing, writing grants, mentoring students, fostering community engagement, and providing service to the program, school, college, university, and profession. This is a non‑remote position in a collaborative interdisciplinary academic setting.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
A terminal degree in Exercise Science, Kinesiology, Allied‑Health, or a closely related field from an accredited institution. Completion of at least 18 graduate‑level semester hours of coursework related to Exercise Science. Applicants who have earned the degree will be given preference. If ABD at time of application, the degree must be conferred by August 1 2026 to be eligible.
Evidence of in‑person teaching experience at the college level in Exercise Science, Kinesiology, Allied‑Health, or a closely related curriculum that showcases the ability to convey complex concepts, engage students, and foster a stimulating learning environment.
Preferred Education, Knowledge, Skills & Experience
Scholarship:
Demonstrated evidence of a successful research program and grant activity in Exercise Science, Kinesiology, Allied‑Health, or a closely related field.
Broad Teaching Experience:
Experience teaching a variety of Exercise Science courses at the college level, showcasing versatility across different curricula, delivery methods (in‑person and online), and settings (lecture, lab, etc.). Consideration to candidates with experience teaching multiple courses in the UNCW EXS curriculum.
Collaborative Relationships:
Evidence of establishing and maintaining collaborative relationships with student assistants, research assistants, and co‑instructors.
Professional Certifications:
Relevant certifications such as ACSM or NSCA. Strong consideration for candidates with CSCS certification from the NSCA.
Commitment to Service:
Demonstrated commitment to service at any level, including school, college, university, community, or professional organizations.
Applied Learning Opportunities and Global Experiences:
Experience providing students with applied learning opportunities and global experiences (internships, research projects, study abroad).
Integration of Exercise Science Technology:
Experience incorporating technology (BODPOD, Anatomage, metabolic carts) into classroom instruction.
Commitment to Personal Professional Growth:
Participation in professional development workshops, conferences, or research initiatives.
Employment Experience in Exercise Science or Related Fields:
Proven experience of at least two years in Exercise Science or a closely related field.
AI Experience:
Experience with AI use in educational and professional settings.
Responsibilities
Teach undergraduate-level Exercise Science courses, including lecture, lab, and online formats.
Develop and deliver course material and assessments aligned with program learning outcomes.
Conduct scholarly research, publish findings, and write grant proposals to support future work.
Mentor students academically and professionally.

Collaborate with colleagues, student assistants, and research assistants as needed.
