Job Description
The Store Planning Manager is a hands-on leader responsible for designing, planning, and optimizing store layouts across all retail locations. This role combines space planning expertise with project management and technology implementation. The ideal candidate is equally comfortable creating floor plans, collaborating across departments, developing team talent, and evaluating new tools that improve accuracy and efficiency.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Interior Design, Architecture, Retail Management, or related field (or equivalent experience).
5+ years of experience in retail store planning, space management, or related field.
Proficient in AutoCAD or Revit; experience with planogram or space management tools (e.g., Blue Yonder, Relex, SmartDraw, or similar).
Strong project management and problem-solving skills.
Proven ability to lead and develop team members.
Experience evaluating and implementing software systems or process improvements.
Collaborative communicator, comfortable working with all levels of the organization.
Key Responsibilities
Store Layout & Design:
Create and maintain floor plans, fixture layouts, and planograms that support merchandising strategies, operational flow, and an exceptional customer experience.
Project Management:
Lead planning for new stores, remodels, relocations, and resets — coordinating with Construction, Merchandising, and Operations to ensure accuracy and on-time execution.
Cross-Functional Collaboration:
Partner with internal teams to align space plans with product strategies, seasonal changes, and sales goals.
Technology & Systems:
Evaluate, recommend, and help implement new software solutions for store design, planogramming, and space management.Maintain existing systems and ensure data accuracy across platforms.
Team Development:
Coach and develop Store Planning Specialists or associates, fostering technical skill growth, design accuracy, and collaboration.
Analytics & Continuous Improvement:
Analyze store and category performance data to identify opportunities to improve space productivity and layout efficiency.
Standards & Compliance:
Maintain current prototype drawings, fixture standards, and ensure all layouts meet ADA, safety, and brand guidelines.
Other duties as your supervisor requests.

Experience with accounting, budgeting, forecasting, marketing, and spreadsheet analysis
Proficient in Word, Excel, Outlook and Power Point, as well as knowledge of database software
Strong comprehension of retail financial metrics and the end-to-end merchandising process
Strong understanding of P&L and the ability to relate it to stores’ performance
Strong retail knowledge and the ability to supervise a large group of associates
Experience in planning, record keeping, and reporting
Strong calculating, problem solving, quantitative analysis, projections, and statistical analysis
Strong decision-making skills and ability to make realistic and rational decisions based on logical assumptions and relevant facts
Ability to read and interpret planogram schematics
Excellent reasoning skills and ability to perceive opportunities and problems to be resolved, and compare and relate information of different types and from varying sources
Exhibit a high level of integrity and business ethics to handle sensitive and confidential information
Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to effectively express ideas or instructions to others and professionally interact and communicate with individuals at all levels of the organization
Excellent organizational skills with the ability to plan, prioritize and organize a diversified workload with multiple priorities
Outstanding interpersonal skills including enthusiasm, courtesy, empathy, and patience
Possess a positive attitude, good listening skills and an outgoing personality
Demonstrated leadership skills in coaching, mentoring, disciplining, evaluating, hiring, supervision, and training
Basic constructing, electrical, maintenance, and repairing skills helpful
Physical Demands
While in the office, frequent physical demands include sitting, standing, walking, dexterity, and light grasping. Occasional physical demands include lifting up to 25 lbs., bending, stooping, reaching, kneeling, squatting, climbing stairs and firmly grasping. The employee is required to accept incoming calls and must be able to hear and speak. Specific vision abilities required by this job include vision adequate for the incumbent to perform the responsibilities and functions of the job efficiently. The associate must have the manual dexterity to manually operate and use a computer and other basic office equipment.
While in the store, frequent physical demands include lifting up to 25 lbs., walking, standing, bending, reaching, dexterity and light grasping. Occasional physical demands include lifting up to and over 50 lbs., climbing stairs, squatting, and firmly grasping. The associate is required to talk and hear. Must be able to work required shifts including nights and weekends, and maintain attendance standards. Specific vision abilities required by this job include vision adequate for the incumbent to perform the responsibilities and functions of the job efficiently. The associate must have the manual dexterity to manually operate and use a computer/cash register and/or RF.
Work Environment and Working Conditions
While in the office, this position will be performed inside a climate-controlled office facility. The noise level is low to medium and typical of an office environment. Potential hazards include electrical hazards. Atmospheric conditions are typical of an office environment and may include exposure to odors and dust.
While in the store, work will normally be performed inside of the store facility; however, some work may occasionally be performed outside in conditions ranging from cold below 32 degrees to heat above 100 degrees. The work environment is usually fast paced with regular deadlines and sales expectations. Extreme noise and vibrations may occasionally be experienced. Associates may be subjected to hazards such as burns, cuts, electrical, explosive, and mechanical. Due to the nature of the work, associates may be exposed atmospheric conditions such as dust fumes, odors, and poor ventilation. For the safety of our associates, all associates may be required to wear protective devices from time to time, depending on the job/task being performed.
