Job Summary The Grants and External Funding Manager supports KPICD’s mission by identifying competitive external funding opportunities, developing proposals, and managing relationships with external partners. The role serves as liaison between KPICD and partners, ensuring proposals align with the institute’s mission and maintaining donor/funder data.

Duties & Essential Job Functions

Grant Writing and Proposal Development

Coordinate and write research and foundation grant proposals, reviewing announcements, researching donor sites, and crafting proposals independently and collaboratively.

Provide grant writing and editing services for research and philanthropic proposals (e.g., biographical sketches, project narratives).

Edit and review proposal narratives for grammar, inclusive language, and alignment with KPICD values.

Assist with administrative proposal information, budget development, and serve as primary resource for pre‑award questions.

Collaboration and Coordination

Work with KPICD leadership to identify funding opportunities and align them with mission and priorities.

Coordinate with the university’s Office of Sponsored Programs, Advancement, and Strategy & Innovation offices to ensure policy compliance.

Contribute to creation of compelling proposals, reports, and impact updates with communications teams.

Provide ongoing education and support to KPICD staff on grant requirements and university procedures.

Administrative Support for Grant Development and Donor Relations

Provide guidance throughout the grant preparation process.

Maintain calendars and timelines for submissions and milestones.

Ensure compliance with regulations and guidelines.

Prepare and maintain accurate documentation for grants and funding.

Collect and analyze data to produce reports for funders and support manuscript preparation.

Coordinate with KPICD Assist Director of Operations on donor and foundation logs.

Prepare funder correspondence and coordinate mailings with the administrative team.

Perform other related duties as assigned.

Required Education & Experience

Bachelor’s degree in child development, psychology, communications, business, English, or a related field.

At least 4 years’ experience in grant writing, grant administration, or a related external funding role.

Preferred Education & Experience

No specific preference listed.

Preferred Certifications or Training

Certified Fundraising Executive (CFRE), Grant Professional Certified (GPC), or similar credentials.

TBRI Practitioner.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Knowledge of customer service techniques and academic research processes.

Descriptive and editorial writing skills for grant proposals.

Proficiency with CRM systems (e.g., Raiser's Edge, Salesforce) and Microsoft Office Suite.

Effective communication with internal teams and external partners.

Organizational and project management skills with attention to detail.

Interpersonal and communication skills; ability to build trust across diverse constituencies.

Strong commitment to the organization’s mission and community‑centered work.

Creative, strategic thinking and collaborative mindset.
