Job Summary:
The Safety Coordinator assists the Health, Safety, & Environmental (HSE) Manager in planning, implementing, and overseeing health, safety, and environmental programs to ensure compliance with applicable regulations, industry standards, and company policies.
This role supports operations in a large-diameter pipe manufacturing facility, fostering a proactive safety culture while reducing risks to employees, contractors, the community, and the environment while protecting company assets.
Responsibilities:
Develop, implement, and maintain safety policies and procedures in compliance with OSHA, NFPA, and company requirements.
Conduct regular safety inspections, job hazard analyses (JHAs), and risk assessments in production areas, maintenance shops, and storage yards.
Lead or assist in incident and near‑miss investigations, determine root causes, and ensure timely closure of corrective actions.
Deliver and coordinate safety training in various topics including new hire orientation, confined space entry, and lockout/tagout.
Monitor compliance with PPE requirements and promote best practices in safe work procedures.
Track safety performance metrics (e.g., Total Recordable Incident Rate, observation reports) and report findings to management.
Ensure compliance with EPA, state, and local environmental regulations, including air emissions, stormwater, and waste management.
Maintain environmental records, permits, and reports in compliance with regulatory deadlines.
Oversee hazardous waste storage, labeling, and disposal in accordance with RCRA requirements.
Support spill prevention, response, and remediation activities.
Conduct environmental audits and coordinate with third‑party inspectors as needed.
Maintain and update emergency response plans, including fire prevention, spill response, and evacuation procedures.
Conduct emergency drills and training to ensure readiness.
Serve as point of contact for emergency services when necessary.
Promote a culture of safety and environmental stewardship through communication, recognition, and employee engagement.
Participate in 6S initiatives (Sort, Set in Order, Shine, Standardize, Sustain, Safety) to maintain a clean and safe work environment.
Recommend process improvements to reduce hazards and environmental impact.
Requirements:
Associate's degree in Health and Safety or other EHS related field.
In-depth knowledge of OSHA, EPA, NFPA, and other applicable regulations.
Strong computer skills and familiar with Microsoft Office Suite.
3+ years of HSE experience in manufacturing, heavy industry, or oil & gas.
Experience coaching employees on safe and at‑risk behaviors.
Experience with safety audits, environmental inspections, and incident investigations.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and PowerPoint).
Preferred:
Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Science, Industrial Hygiene, or related field.
Experience working with local, state and federal regulatory agencies.
Experience in Sustainability initiatives.
Experience with site security and access control.
Certifications: OSHA 511/501, OSHA 30, HAZWOPER, 1st Aid/CPR/AED, RCRA, GSP, ASP, CSP or other related certifications in EHS management, compliance or management systems.
