Qualifications and Requirements
Appropriate New Jersey Department of Education Standard Certificate, Certificate of Eligibility (CE), or Certificate of Eligibility with Advanced Standing (CEAS) as required.
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university (preferred), unless otherwise specified by the New Jersey Department of Education.
Basic Functions and Responsibilities
Plan a program of study that meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of students.
Evaluate student progress on a regular basis and prepare progress reports.
Instruct pupils in citizenship, basic communications skills and other general elements of the course of study common to all teachers, as specified in state law and district regulations.
Provide individual, small, and/or large group instruction, whenever appropriate, to adapt the curriculum to pupils with varying intellectual and special abilities.
Instruct pupils in proper care and use of textbooks, equipment, and materials.
Establish and maintain standards of pupil behavior needed to provide an orderly and productive environment.
Select and requisition books, instructional materials, equipment, aids, and maintain required inventory records.
Develop instructional plans and organize class time to provide a balanced program of instruction.
Develop and maintain professional competence through participation in in-service education activities provided by the district and in self‑selected professional growth activities.
Supervise out‑of‑classroom activities for pupils during the assigned working day, as required.
Plan and coordinate the work of aides, teacher assistants, and other paraprofessionals.
Identify pupils’ needs and cooperate with other professional staff members in assessing and helping pupils solve health, attitude, and learning problems.
Communicate with parents and pupil personnel staff members on the individual pupil’s progress and development.
Maintain attendance accounting and business service as required.
Develop and participate in the sponsorship of student activities and faculty committees.
Act as a resource person on an interdepartmental level to relate appropriate aspects of the subject area to other subject areas.
Establish and maintain open lines of communication with students and parents concerning academic and behavioral progress of all assigned students.
Perform other duties and tasks assigned by the Supervisor.
Reports To Principal
Salary, Terms & Affiliation
Salary: $67,000–$111,625 (Salary updated for SY 25‑26)
Employment Period: Ten (10) months
Union Affiliation: Newark Teacher’s Union (NTU)
