Goosmann Law Firm is seeking a highly skilled and strategic Estate & Business Succession Attorney to join our estate planning and corporate law practice. This role is ideal for an attorney with a strong background in complex estate planning matters, closely held business structures, and succession planning for high-net-worth individuals and business owners. This is a client-facing role that involves working closely with family-owned businesses, executives, and entrepreneurs to design sophisticated, tax-efficient plans that preserve wealth across generations.
Key Responsibilities
Advise clients on estate, gift, and generation-skipping transfer (GST) tax strategies Develop and implement comprehensive business succession plans for family-owned and closely held businesses Structure and draft estate planning documents, including complex trusts (e.g., GRATs, ILITs, SLATs, IDGTs) Coordinate with clients’ financial advisors, accountants, and other professionals to deliver integrated planning solutions Analyze and plan for liquidity needs and tax liabilities personally and related to business interests Assist with lifetime gifting strategies, intra-family transfers, entity restructuring, and charitable planning Stay current on federal and state tax law developments impacting estate and succession planning Qualifications
J.D. from an accredited law school LL.M. in Taxation preferred but not required CAP designation a plus Active bar membership required in one, but preferred in more, of the following Nebraska, Iowa and/or South Dakota 5–10+ years of experience in estate planning, business succession planning, or a related field Familiarity with business entity structures (LLCs, S-corps, partnerships) and ownership transfer mechanisms Excellent drafting, analytical, and communication skills Ability to build strong relationships with high-net-worth clients and business owners Proven ability to manage complex planning projects independently or as part of a team Seniority level
