Position: Assistant Professor of Practice – Museum at Texas Tech University (TTU)
Position Description The Museum at Texas Tech University is in a major growth phase for engagement and educational programming capacity. This role reports to the Executive Director of the Museum and the Vice Provost of Outreach and Engagement. The Director of Education and Engagement will oversee engagement programming, engaged research, and partnership development associated with the Museum. Responsibilities also include submitting and overseeing new engaged research grants, coordinating the development of new programmatic engagement pathways, and leading a division comprising four full‑time staff members and a graduate student intern.
The position will also teach four six‑week micro‑credential courses each academic year and will have two direct reports: a Curator of Education and a Museum Outreach & Engagement Liaison. Staff benefits include accrued vacation and a standard staff holiday schedule.

The Office is home to several divisions, including the Museum at Texas Tech.
About the Department The Museum at Texas Tech University (MaTTU) was established in 1929 and spans nearly 200,000 square feet. It encompasses active research in anthropology, art, clothing & textiles, history, natural sciences, and paleontology. The museum sees around 160,000 visitors annually and hosts the Heritage and Museum Sciences Master of Arts Program.
Major/Essential Functions Teaching (0.2 FTE)
Spring: two micro‑credential (6‑week) courses
Fall: two micro‑credential (6‑week) courses
Mentor graduate students conducting engagement activities and potentially co‑chair graduate students involved with the MaTTU.
Engaged Research (0.50 FTE)
Publish and oversee engaged research partnerships of the Museum at Texas Tech University.
Attend and present research at conferences, symposia, and related events.
Write grants focused on engagement efforts across the Museum’s research divisions, exhibitions, and education.
Administration (0.30 FTE)
Oversee engagement programming and partnerships of the Museum at Texas Tech University.
Lead the Museum’s Education Division, supervising Helen DeVitt Jones Curator of Education and the Museum Outreach & Engagement Liaison.
Direct strategic growth and execution of programming on behalf of the Museum.
Serve as a resource and point of contact for TTU faculty.
Participate in the Executive Director’s leadership team, serve on assigned committees, working groups, and projects, and represent the MaTTU at events.
Required Qualifications
Terminal degree (Ed.D., Ph.D., or M.F.A.).
Four years of experience developing or managing programs or projects.
Record of scholarship commensurate with rank.
Research agenda focused on community or cultural engagement.
Preferred Qualifications
Three or more years of experience working in a museum or cultural institution.
Three or more years of management experience.
Experience teaching in an online learning environment.
Active engagement in professional organizations in museums and/or engaged scholarship.
Experience collaborating with community partners.
