The Student Success Advisor oversees a student caseload to provide academic guidance and holistic student support, ensuring enrollment, retention, and completion.

Responsibilities

Serve as the student’s main point of contact and assist all students in curating a customized academic pathway that meets their academic and career goals.

Provide personalized holistic support by assessing students’ strengths and weaknesses and identifying action steps to enhance academic progress.

Assist students in overcoming academic and personal obstacles; examine alternate pathways based on changing goals or personal situations.

Provide referrals to necessary resources and support services.

Utilize technology to manage caseload with systematic communication strategies.

Manage and analyze caseload data to support goal attainment, monitor progress, and generate written reports.

Assist students with academic planning and developing balanced schedules; ensure adherence to academic plans.

Lead proactive outreach campaigns focusing on equitable interventions; contact withdrawing students to improve retention.

Train students to use College technology needed for academic success and self-sufficiency.

Assist students with career exploration to articulate academic and career goals.

Facilitate early alert interventions in collaboration with Academic Affairs to support students and identify creative solutions (e.g., study skills, tutoring, mental health support).

Coordinate and facilitate financial literacy and student success workshops.

Complete all necessary professional development.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Master’s degree in psychology, counseling, social work, higher education, student personnel, or other discipline deemed relevant; OR Bachelor’s degree and three (3) years of related experience.

Master’s degree and one (1) year of related experience in a higher education or similar setting.

MDC Advisor training and Coaching certification completed within the first 90 days of employment.

All degrees must be from a regionally accredited institution.

Knowledge and understanding of College organization, goals, policies, and programs.

Strong interpersonal and communication skills to work with a wide range of constituents in a diverse community.

Knowledge of academic programs, student and family supports, academic advising, career development practices and principles, and financial aid regulations.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office, student information systems, caseload management software, and other productivity software.

General knowledge of admissions and residency.

Ability to present information individually and in groups via face-to-face and remote environments.

Experience advising in a Higher Education setting.

Knowledge of federal, state, and College EEO/AA/Diversity laws and guidelines.

Ability to analyze data and make evidence‑based recommendations.

Ability to foster a cooperative work environment.

Ability to maintain confidentiality of records and information.

Ability to travel between campuses, buildings, and off‑campus sites.

Ability to work a flexible schedule including evenings and weekends.

Ability to interact positively in a multi‑ethnic and multi‑cultural environment.

Additional requirements: successful completion of a background screening and reference check process.
