About the Role Campus Patrol Officers play a key role in maintaining the safety and security of Westminster University’s campus community. Officers patrol assigned areas, respond to emergencies, enforce university policies, and provide assistance to students, faculty, and staff as needed. This position requires strong communication skills, sound judgment, and the ability to remain calm and effective in a variety of situations.
Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent.
First Aid trained and certified.
Valid driver's license with a clean driving record (required for patrol duties).
Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively with diverse populations.
Ability to remain calm and composed under pressure and handle confrontational situations professionally.
Physical fitness and stamina to perform patrol duties on foot or vehicle for extended periods.
Ability to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, and crouch.
Ability to regularly lift and move up to 25 pounds.
Extended hours, including evenings and weekends will be required.
Knowledge of relevant laws, regulations, and procedures related to campus security and law enforcement.
Willingness to work a flexible schedule, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
Preferred Qualifications
Additional education or training in law enforcement or security preferred.
Certification as a security officer or law enforcement officer.
Key Responsibilities Patrol Campus
Conduct routine patrols of designated areas on foot or in vehicle to deter and detect suspicious activities.
Monitor campus buildings, parking lots, and grounds to ensure a safe and secure environment.
Maintain visibility to deter unauthorized individuals and prevent incidents.
Provide safety escorts, open and secure buildings and other areas as needed.
Emergency Response
Respond promptly to calls for assistance, emergencies, and alarms.
Assess situations quickly and take appropriate action to address safety concerns.
Coordinate with emergency services such as police, fire, and medical personnel as necessary.
Assistance and Support
Provide assistance, directions, and information to students, faculty, staff, and visitors.
Assist with crowd control during events, gatherings, or demonstrations.
Escort individuals or groups as requested to ensure their safety.
Security Measures
Monitor surveillance cameras and alarm systems to identify potential security threats.
Conduct inspections of facilities, equipment, and access points to identify vulnerabilities.
Report maintenance issues or security concerns.
Community Engagement
Build positive relationships with members of the campus community through regular interactions and outreach efforts.
Serve as a resource for safety education and crime prevention tips.
Participate in community events, meetings, and committees as a representative of campus security.
