Base Hourly:

$24.72

B25, 12 months

New Hire Experience:

1% of the base hourly rate granted for each year of verified like experience (within ten years) beyond the requirement, up to a ten-year maximum

New Hire Education:

1% of the base hourly rate awarded for an AA or higher degree if not required for the position

Job Summary:

To diagnose, using computer software, and perform repairs on district vehicles; and to ensure the availability of vehicles in safe operating condition.

All Transportation employees may be subject to pre-employment drug testing and alcohol testing, as well as random testing throughout employment. Due to federal safety regulation, this includes marijuana/THC/CBD. Any employee having a confirmed positive test shall not be eligible for employment.

Key Responsibilities:

Diagnose and correct all types of engine problems from tune-up to complete engine and transmission overhauls Inspect, diagnose and make minor repairs on district vehicles (i.e. buses, automobiles, vans and trucks) Make service calls for emergency repairs and operate light towing equipment for vehicle recovery Check buses for safety conformance and compliance Determine and follow safe work procedures and keep shop are maintained and free from hazards Regular and on-time attendance required Perform required paperwork and record keeping in a timely, neat and legible manner Estimate time and cost repairs of equipment Lubricate, adjust and service equipment May drive any school bus and/or any school van safely to transport students over any scheduled routes and/or any special excursions (field trips, athletic events) for absent bus drivers Perform other related duties, as assigned, to ensure the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit Assists with other assigned duties as appropriate to the area of assignment and Mesa Public Schools Required Qualifications:

High School education or equivalent preferred Five years mechanical with minimum three years diesel experience Skills and experience of journeyman mechanic Valid Arizona Drivers License with clean driving record Successful completion of an accredited apprenticeship and/or proof of equally satisfactory experience Ability to obtain a class B CDL with Passenger and School Bus Endorsements Valid, or ability to obtain, ADEQ vehicle emissions license Preferred Qualifications:

ASE certification preferred Skills & Competencies:

Models the attributes and skills of the MPS Portrait of a Graduate Demonstrates commitment to the MPS Promise that every student is known by name, served by strength and need, and graduates ready for college, career and community Ability to operate vehicle maintenance repair facility equipment (i.e. brake drum lathe, laptop diagnostics) Ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written) and to establish and to maintain effective and cooperative working relationships Ability to work overtime and to change schedules with minimal notice; willingness to work non-regular hours (weekends, night shift, swing shift, holidays) Willingness to pursue educational goals to maintain basic job skills Proficient in diagnostic testing equipment of automotive and maintenance shops Ability to work outside in either heat or cold; to lift and/or move 75 lbs. Work Environment & Physical Requirements:

Mainly in a garage/shop environment, which may be noisy and include exposure to fumes, oils, and mechanical parts Some outdoor work may be required, especially when vehicles break down off-site May involve working inconfined spaces (e.g., under vehicles) or at heights (e.g., on ladders or lifts) Works with transportation supervisors, bus drivers, and other mechanics Must respond quickly to breakdowns to ensure student transportation is not disrupted Ability to work in awkward positions, under vehicles, or while using overhead hoists Must be able to lift 50-100 lbs. regularly, such as tires, tools, and vehicle parts
