Principal Systems Engineer – SME Edge Compute As a Principal Systems Engineer, you will interact with DOD customers as well as other clients using PacStar equipment in tactical networks to understand their needs and collaborate with software, hardware, and networking teams to develop solutions. Your main focus will be on the development, testing, and productization of PacStar Communications products. This role involves hands-on work with the product development team and Product Line Management, driving the success of PacStar's product systems in areas such as tactical communications, edge processing, and networking technologies. You will evaluate market needs, define technical requirements, and identify solution gaps to develop innovative solutions supporting business growth. You will need to travel up to 25% to customer and partner sites for technical discussions, demonstrations, and training. Translate marketing requirements into detailed system requirements and architecture, collaborate with partners to develop products from inception to full production. Ensure products offer market differentiation through features, pricing, support, and value propositions to increase market share and revenue. Develop technical strategies, operational use cases, and reference designs for market-specific solutions. Work with hardware engineering, CTO, and Marketing to develop solutions meeting market needs, including features, specifications, and cost targets. Provide SME support to customers and sales teams, including pre-sales technical knowledge and application insights. Support creation of white papers and thought leadership materials in collaboration with marketing and product management. Participate in industry standards groups and support collaborative product development and marketing activities. Other duties as assigned. What you bring: A relevant engineering degree or equivalent experience. 10+ years of experience in System, Electrical, Hardware Engineering, or Computer Networking. US citizenship and residence. Knowledge of defense and aerospace technology, system architecture, hardware, software, AI/ML, and support requirements. Experience with ruggedized MIL-STD-810H products, x86 and ARM systems, LAN/WAN networking, GPU/FPGA design, cybersecurity standards, operating systems, virtualization, and containerization. Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance within 24 months. Experience in the U.S. DoD environment. Understanding of networking, security concepts, and ability to work with cross-functional teams. Strong communication, presentation, leadership skills, and willingness to travel.
