The City of Chesapeake is seeking an experienced and dynamic IT Project Manager to lead critical components of our internal projects and support future high-impact IT initiatives. This is an exciting opportunity to play a pivotal role in modernizing systems for one of Virginias most forward-looking cities.
As the primary liaison between City stakeholders and selected vendors, the IT Project Manager will coordinate communications, scheduling, budgeting, and resource management. The successful candidate will bring a strategic and technical mindset to project planning and executionensuring timelines, deliverables, and budgets are met while maintaining compliance and risk mitigation.
Key Responsibilities
Serve as the lead project manager on the Citys Project Team Lead complex IT projects Act as the primary point of contact between the City and vendors, managing communications, schedules, and expectations Define project goals, milestones, timelines, and budgets in collaboration with City and vendor stakeholders Track progress using SharePoint and other project management tools Manage risks, issues, and change requests with a focus on resolution and minimal disruption Ensure documentation, test plans, training aids, and reports are current and actionable Coordinate project resources across functional, technical, and executive teams Monitor contract compliance, approve modifications, and facilitate payments Report project status through formal meetings and executive updates
Qualifications
PMP Certification 5+ years of experience managing large-scale, multi-phase technical projects from inception to completion Proven success in managing multimillion-dollar project budgets Expertise in stakeholder engagement and cross-functional resource coordination Strong proficiency in SharePoint and project tracking tools Demonstrated experience with risk management, testing, training, and project documentation Effective organizational, analytical, and interpersonal skills Understanding of public sector processes and terminology Experience establishing or working within a Project Management Office ( PMO ) Prior experience in Government or politically sensitive environments is highly desirable

Required Qualifications VOCATIONAL / EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENT :
Requires a bachelors degree in information systems, computer science, business administration or a closely related field.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT :
In addition to satisfying the vocational/education standards, this class requires a minimum of six years of related, full-time equivalent experience.
