Base pay range $140,000.00/yr - $190,000.00/yr
Controller (Nonprofit) — Chicago Loop (Hybrid) Overview of the Role Lead the day-to-day finance function so leadership has timely, reliable information to operate and grow programs. Partner closely with the CFO and leadership team. Elevate adoption of the newly implemented ERP to streamline processes and strengthen decision support.
Top Performance Objectives
Oversee close activities, account reconciliations, and internal reporting.
Ensure accuracy, consistency, and clear communication to stakeholders.
Support the CFO
Translate financial results into practical insights for leadership.
Contribute to budgeting, forecasting, and board materials.
Assess current use; reduce manual work; enhance workflows and reporting.
Train Finance and key partners to use Sage effectively.
Maintain policies, procedures, and audit‑ready documentation.
Support grant/contract reporting and fund accounting requirements.
Develop the Team & Culture
Set clear roles and service levels (AP, AR, close cadence).
Foster an open, honest, and collaborative environment across functions.
Core Responsibilities
Lead monthly close, internal reporting, and routine analyses.
Serve as Finance’s ERP lead for chart maintenance, workflows, and basic integrations.
Oversee AP/AR, cash routines, and support payroll interfaces.
Maintain GAAP‑aligned policies and audit support packages.
Partner with Programs/Development/Operations to align timelines and data needs.
Coach and develop staff; reinforce a transparent, service‑oriented culture.
Candidate Profile (Must‑Haves)
Proven ability to run a reliable close and produce clear internal reports.
Hands‑on experience improving an ERP (preferably Sage) and reducing manual processes.
Strong communicator and team builder; trusted cross‑functional partner.
Bachelor’s in Accounting/Finance; CPA preferred or equivalent experience.
Nice‑to‑Haves
Exposure to grant/contract billing and donor/reporting needs.
Exposure in nonprofit accounting, including fund accounting basics.
