Payroll Tax Associate (temporary) Primary Responsibilities Review and process payroll tax filings, including federal, state, and local taxes for 43 states. Ensure compliance with tax laws and handle any discrepancies or audits. Work with external tax authorities on tax-related matters. Prepare and file quarterly and annual payroll tax reports.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Utilizing payroll information that is extracted from the system to file payroll withholding tax returns manually on various agency websites. This includes 43 states and multiple additional local jurisdictions. Make payments as needed.

Complete state unemployment insurance wage reporting and quarterly filings for 43 states on their individual websites. Make payments as needed.

Corresponding with and building relationships with state tax agencies to clarify any open items.

Review notices from federal/state/local agencies for past tax filing inquiries. Research and contact the agency to confirm what is needed. Resolve the discrepancies and take action needed to close out the problem. Document the problem and action taken. Get confirmation from the agency that it is closed. Make payments if needed.

Support internal staff by providing timely and accurate assistance.

Other duties may be assigned.

Education, Experience, Qualifications and Skills

Bachelor’s degree or relevant experience of 3-5 years is required.

Knowledge of payroll tax and unemployment insurance.

Experience in preparing payroll tax filings is required.

Proficiency in navigating various government agency websites.

Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (V-lookups & Pivot tables) is required.

Skilled at managing multiple responsibilities, including maintaining and organizing numerous website accounts, handling logins and password resets, and registering for new access as needed.

Mainly remote – maybe one day in the Chicago downtown office but not required.

High level of accuracy and attention to detail.

Strong verbal and written communication skills.
