Requirements:
High school diploma or equivalent (GED, etc.)
Possess or obtain (within 6 months of hire) and maintain a valid Class B CDL with no air brake restrictions and P endorsement
Two years of experience with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, etc.), and training in a professional setting
Preferred Qualifications:
An associate degree in a related field
Two years of mapping software in a professional or academic setting
Two years of supervisory or Transit specific experience

JOB DESCRIPTION POSITION SCOPE This position supervises approximately 30 full-time and part-time Bus Operators during all hours of transit service and oversees transit operations. The Transit Supervisor must exercise initiative in assisting the Transit Manager with the daily operations of the transit system. This position must have very good working knowledge of the bus routes and understand contractual procedures and past practices used in scheduling Bus Operators for work.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Develop and conduct essential training for new hires and existing staff and ensure that training procedures are up to date and in compliance with Federal and State regulations.
Maintain proper certifications (CDL, and Defensive Driving Course) and ensure proper certification of staff.
Schedule daily Bus Operators’ assignments and tri-annual run picks.
Answer telephone calls and assist customers over the phone as needed.
Handle disciplinary issues with Bus Operators.
Begin operations at 5:00 am as staff reports for duty, close operations at 11:00 pm by ensuring security and safety and be on-call as needed to include working Saturdays.
Audit staffs assigned property (fare media) and replenish as required.
Monitor for accuracy and record daily ridership data, review and approve daily bus operator reports.
Cover shifts as needed due to call-ins.
Recognize staff as fit for duty or need for reasonable suspicion drug test.
Count daily fare box revenue and make the daily deposit.
Investigate and respond to accidents, passenger incidents, and complaints. Follow-up with Risk management, customers, and/or insurance company, determine fault or preventability and provide post-accident counselling and/or retraining as needed.
Establish detours and communicate changes to staff and customers, plan and develop routes: to include creating and distribution of turn sheets, development of alternatives for the Transit Commission to consider, and the collection of appropriate data.
Complete National Transit Database (NTD) reports and maintain compliance through attendance at necessary workshops and/or webinars.
Attend continuing education courses offered by FTA approved providers in order to remain current in Transit standards and regulations.
Monitor transfer center, bus shelters, and other transit facilities which require a working knowledge of surveillance system equipment and provide support for contracted security.
Assists with paratransit application and question processing.
Provide Bus Operator uniforms by creating specifications, working with distributors, procuring through city financial process, approving additional clothing (shoes), distributing to staff, and monitoring staff account balances.
Plan, schedule, and conduct quarterly safety meetings based on system policies, training goals and objectives, and respond to staff concerns regarding safety.
Implement Federal Transit Administration (FTA) random and post-accident drug and alcohol testing procedures.
Interview, hire, and train new employees and process documentation on all staff. Coach and provide suggestion for improvement when necessary and provide documentation as required.
Conduct ride checks and provide necessary follow-up with Bus Operators.
Assist Transit Manager with special projects such as triennial reviews, procurement projects, and contract reviews.
Have a working knowledge of all routes and equipment and operate as needed.
NON-ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Assist in procurement of training equipment and materials.
Participate with citywide safety committee.
Work with other City departments in such areas as police investigations, street maintenance and detours, placement of transit bus stop signs, and development of emergency procedures.
Coordinate and participate in community outreach and marketing projects and communicate to public through social media and updating website.
Develop and facilitate employee engagement including innovation committee, safety team, etc.
Work with Streets Division in assisting supervision of plowing operations as needed.
Participate in WIPTA functions and committees as assigned by the Transit Manager.
Review and develop internal policies and procedures.
Perform related duties as required.
