We are looking for a Lead Electrical Engineer to join
WSP
in the U.S. as part of our kW Mission Critical Engineering team. The role focuses on designing power and building systems for data centers and mission‑critical environments worldwide.
Job Description As Lead Electrical Engineer you will design complex power and building systems including generator plants, medium voltage distribution, uninterruptible power systems, lighting, fire alarm, and grounding. You will lead projects and a team of electrical engineers, manage client interactions, write proposals, and ensure compliance with industry codes and standards.
Responsibilities
Produce high‑quality technical and professional deliverables for projects and proposals.
Apply deep knowledge of engineering techniques across multiple technical functions.
Utilize advanced analytical and design techniques to solve technical problems.
Lead the development of initial electrical system concepts.
Develop work plans to address technical issues within project time and budget.
Work within multi‑discipline project teams to develop drawings and specification documents for issuance to architects, contractors and building owners.
Collaborate and coordinate with internal project discipline team members, equipment vendors and manufacturers.
Perform project management activities including writing proposals, establishing budgets, and managing client interactions.
Design complex and large electrical medium‑voltage and low‑voltage distribution systems and electrical building systems (e.g. general power, lighting, grounding).
Survey and evaluate existing conditions.
Perform construction administration.
Develop and maintain client relationships.
Maintain workplace safety and comply with WSP’s health, safety, drug/alcohol, and harassment policies.
Who You Are Your background includes familiarity with Building Information Modeling using Revit, strong communication skills, and experience as a lead project electrical engineer enabling team leadership.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or Architectural Engineering with an emphasis on electrical building systems.
7+ years of experience designing electrical systems for high‑performance commercial or industrial environments.
Registered Professional Engineer (PE).
Experience mentoring and training others in the field.
Strong working knowledge of electrical systems and codes.
Attention to detail, highly organized, self‑starter.
Preferred Qualifications
Enhancing credentials (LEED, Uptime ATD, etc.) preferred.
Experience with short‑circuit coordination and arc‑flash studies.
Mission‑critical/Data Center experience.
International project experience and knowledge of international codes and standards.
