A regional law firm's downtown San Diego office is seeking an experienced Litigation Paralegal to join their growing team. This role provides comprehensive support to attorneys throughout all phases of complex civil litigation in California state and federal courts, with a focus on insurance defense matters. The ideal candidate will have substantial trial prep experience, strong knowledge of procedural rules, and the ability to manage multiple cases under tight deadlines.
Key Responsibilities
Assist attorneys with case management, discovery, and trial preparation.
Manage insurance defense matters, including claim files, medical/damages summaries, and coordination with adjusters.
Draft pleadings, motions, and discovery responses; maintain case chronologies and exhibit indexes.
Organize and manage large volumes of documents using Relativity or another e-Discovery platform.
Conduct factual and legal research using LexisNexis and Westlaw.
Serve as liaison between attorneys, clients, experts, witnesses, and insurance carriers.
Provide direct trial support, including exhibit preparation and courtroom logistics.
Qualifications
Meets requirements under California Business & Professions Code § 6450.
Bachelor’s degree and ABA-approved Paralegal Certificate required.
Minimum of 3 years of litigation experience; insurance defense experience strongly preferred.
Proficiency with e-filing systems (One Legal, CM/ECF) and litigation technology tools (Relativity, CaseMap, TrialDirector).
Strong organizational and communication skills; ability to manage competing priorities.
This is a hybrid position of 2-days onsite and 3-days remote, following a 90-day introductory period. The compensation range for this position is $90,000–$115,000 (based on a 37.5-hour workweek). The firm also offers medical, dental and vision health insurance, 401(k) with partial match, annual discretionary bonuses, and 80 hours of sick and vacation time annually.
