Burke, Williams & Sorensen, LLP . Burke, Williams & Sorensen, LLP seeks an experienced Litigation Paralegal to join our Oakland office. This position provides comprehensive support to attorneys throughout all phases of complex civil litigation in both California state and federal courts, from case inception through discovery, trial, and post-trial proceedings. The ideal candidate will be a proactive professional with a strong command of procedural rules, trial preparation, and case management in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment. This position is a full-time, non-exempt, 7.5-hour/day position. Our current arrangement for staff is to work 2 days on-site and 3 days from home weekly upon satisfactory completion of their introductory period. This arrangement may be changed at any time based on business needs and decisions.

Responsibilities

Assist attorneys with drafting pleadings, discovery, motions, and pretrial filings in compliance with California and federal court rules. Coordinate discovery, manage document productions, and maintain case chronologies, witness lists, and exhibit indexes. Provide hands-on trial support, including preparing exhibits, witness materials, and electronic presentations. Organize and manage large volumes of case materials and evidence using Relativity, CaseMap, and NetDocuments. Conduct legal and factual research using LexisNexis, Westlaw, and court databases. Serve as liaison with attorneys, clients, experts, and witnesses, and coordinate witness preparation for trial. Attend trials with attorneys to assist with exhibits and witnesses. Assist with verdict tracking, judgment packages, and appellate record organization as needed.

Qualifications

Meets requirements under California Business & Professions Code 6450. Bachelor’s degree and ABA-approved Paralegal Certificate required. Minimum five (5) years of litigation experience, including substantial trial and federal court experience. Strong understanding of California and federal court procedures, including e-filing systems (One Legal, CM/ECF). Proficiency with litigation technology and trial presentation tools (Relativity, CaseMap, TrialDirector, NetDocuments, PowerPoint). Excellent organizational and communication skills; ability to manage multiple deadlines with accuracy and professionalism.

Compensation

The pay range for this role is the hourly equivalent of $90,000 – $115,000 annually. Actual compensation will be commensurate with experience, qualifications, skillset, and successful track record. Annual discretionary bonuses, competitive health insurance benefits, and 401(k) with a partial match are offered when individuals are eligible for benefits.
