What you’ll do as a Solutions Engineer You are the technical lynchpin through the entire sales cycle—pre‑sales and account technical leadership. You will work closely with public‑sector prospects and customers to educate, empower, and ensure their success on the Cloudflare platform. Your expertise in Cloudflare’s global distributed network and technology will help find best‑fit solutions, train and onboard new customers via video‑conference or in person, create documentation, and support the long‑term technology strategy of the customer. As a Public Sector SE you need strong technical knowledge of on‑premise security, networking implementations, and public cloud initiatives common to US public‑sector customers. You will also collaborate with Sales, Product, Engineering, and Customer Support teams to advocate for customers.
Responsibilities
Drive technical discussions and implementations to generate new business, expand existing business, and keep customers happy.
Lead qualification of prospect and customer use cases, technical requirement discovery, demonstrations, solution identification, design, and proofs‑of‑concept (PoCs).
Act as part of a dedicated account team to advise customers on technical best practices, product implementation, and strategic guidance.
Manage a mix of remote and in‑person engagements; travel is required for 30‑40% of the role.
Requirements
Strong understanding of internet technologies: OSI model, Routing (TCP/UDP), DNS (authoritative and recursive), HTTP(S), SSL/TLS.
Comfort with on‑premise infrastructure and networking configurations, including legacy systems.
Minimum 5 years of experience in a customer‑facing sales or consulting role.
Technical curiosity and passion; stay current with Cloudflare products and industry trends.
Focus on learning, teaching, collaboration, mentorship, and growth.
High value on project management, relationship building, and emotional intelligence.
Desired
Understanding of firewalls (L3, L4, L7) and ACL terminology.
Comfort with command‑line interfaces, RESTful APIs, and HTTP request/response inspection.
Undergraduate degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field (not mandatory).
Foundational understanding of AI; actively exploring or building AI‑driven capabilities.
Bonus Points
Graduate‑level degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.
Certifications such as Azure/AWS/GCP Architect.

Compensation Estimated annual salary: $211 000 to $257 000 (Washington-based hires). Role is eligible for incentive compensation under Cloudflare’s Sales Compensation Plan.
