The Opportunity We’re seeking a
Controller
to oversee and strengthen accounting operations across several entities — including real estate investment, property management, renovation, and lending divisions.
This is a hands‑on leadership role responsible for maintaining accurate financial reporting, compliance, and cash flow management, while mentoring accounting staff and improving systems such as QuickBooks and AppFolio. The ideal candidate is confident working independently, thrives in a fast‑paced, multi‑entity environment, and enjoys bringing structure and insight to a growing real estate business.
While this position is based in Memphis, we’re open to remote candidates nationwide who are willing to travel quarterly to our Memphis and Little Rock offices for on‑site collaboration.
Key Responsibilities
Oversee day‑to‑day accounting activities across multiple entities
Prepare and review balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow reports
Produce accurate property‑level financials for owners and investors
Lead financial reporting for banks, lenders, and audits
Accounting Operations
Supervise and mentor accounting staff
Manage AR/AP, credit card entries, and reconciliations
Oversee billing for renovation and construction projects
Track budgets and ensure financial discipline
System & Process Management
Leverage AppFolio and QuickBooks for reporting and automation
Identify and implement process improvements
Monitor and reconcile intercompany transactions
Insurance & Compliance
Maintain liability, workers’ comp, and property insurance programs
Ensure compliance with accounting standards and lender requirements
Analysis & Strategic Support
Review property P&Ls and provide performance insights
Ensure management fees and revenue sources are captured accurately
Support leadership with cash flow, profitability, and forecasting insights
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA preferred)
5+ years of accounting experience, including 2+ years in a leadership or controller role
Experience in real estate, property management, or construction accounting required
Proficiency with QuickBooks and property management software (AppFolio, Buildium, Propertyware, or Rent Vine)
Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills
