This role is part of Alcon's Finance, Accounting, & Audit function, a team that advances Alcon's financial strategy and ensures fiscal responsibility as we transform the eye care industry.

The Senior Director, External Financial Reporting, will lead the External Financial Reporting Function and will be responsible for the preparation of all external Global Financial reports (Form 20F/Annual Reports, Quarterly Financial reports). The Senior Director ensures that effective financial controls, policies, and procedures are established & applied to provide the company with high quality, compliant external financial reporting. The person in this position will lead a team of four. This role provides thought leadership and expertise on IFRS, US and other regulatory requirements.

Main Responsibilities:

Lead and manage the preparation and review of all SEC and SIX reports, including annual report (20-F or 10K), quarterly reports (Interim Financial Reports/10Q), Swiss reporting requirements, earnings release and XBRL tagging. Coordinate with legal function on any finance input on other required forms e.g., 8-K.

Responsible for the compilation of financial statements, footnotes, management discussion and analysis and all other finance components of the filings.

Assist Investor Relations with preparation of all financial elements of the Earnings press release, presentations, and Earnings call preparations.

Assist in providing technical expertise and leadership to the finance organization on the treatment of accounting issues, implementation of new accounting standards and compliance with IFRS, U.S. GAAP, SEC, and PCAOB regulations

Ensure internal control procedures are in place and maintain SOX compliance.

Monitoring and research of new IFRS, US GAAP and SEC pronouncements; evaluation of impact to the company; assisting in the implementation of new business, accounting, and financial reporting processes.

Lead company response to any comment letters from external regulatory bodies/SEC/SIX etc. on external financial reporting documents.

Responsible for the accounting for Pensions and EPS calculation

Work with external and internal auditors on requests for assistance.

Prepare audit schedules and interface with external auditors, as necessary.

Assist with ad hoc projects and responsibilities as needed.

Assesses implications of upcoming changes in accounting standards for the Alcon External Financial reporting and collaborates within Alcon, with industry contacts and auditors in interpreting and implementing new reporting standards, providing thought leadership in designing and implementing new reporting requirements.

Leads team of external financial reporting experts within Alcon setting clear objectives and direction for the team.

Trains associates on External financial reporting inputs and deliverables.

Bachelor’s Degree

The ability to fluently read, write, understand and communicate in English

Preferred Qualifications/Skills/Experience

Education: University Degree in finance/accounting/economics or MBA; Certified Public Accountant/Chartered Accountant with in-depth IFRS knowledge and US GAAP

Relevant work experience in finance of 15+ years, with multinational and/or Audit experience with a major (i.e., Big 4) public accounting firm.

Strong technical accounting competence acquired in Auditing: minimum 5-10 years in major auditing company, and 5-10 years in a multinational financial reporting environment or senior technical specialist in major international companies using IFRS or US GAAP

Line management experience with team responsibility.

Good understanding of the Healthcare industry

In-depth knowledge of IFRS, US GAAP and SEC Rules and Regulations

Ability to perform independent research and pre‑pare analyses of the impact of accounting and regulatory pronouncements on the company’s financial statements and accounting and disclosure practices.

Experience in SOX control execution/documentation

Detail‑oriented with demonstrated oral and written communication skills.

Ability to work with senior management and influence decision making.

Strong multi‑tasking skills and ability to adapt to change.

Ability to take ownership of projects and drive them through to completion.

Ability to work with all levels of personnel, from staff to executive management.
