The Role The
Manager, Public Relations and Communications
plays a critical role in shaping and amplifying the NWSL’s voice across both
consumer and B2B audiences . Reporting to the Vice President of Public Relations and Communications, you will
define and execute integrated communications strategies
that aggressively elevate the league’s brand, drive commercial success, and strengthen its position as the leader in women’s sports and entertainment.
You will be the vital link connecting PR efforts with cross‑functional partners—including
Marketing, Sponsorship, Content, and Social —to embed communications into all major initiatives, secure high‑impact earned media, and craft cohesive narratives that elevate the league, its clubs, and its world‑class
players
to fans, partners, and the broader cultural landscape.
What You Will Own & Drive Strategy & Integrated Execution
Develop and execute a comprehensive, integrated PR strategy
that reinforces the NWSL’s position as a modern, fast‑growing sports and entertainment property.
Lead consumer and B2B communications
initiatives, including brand storytelling, product launches, partnership announcements, and
executive and player visibility
programs.
Develop and manage
proactive media relations strategies
that generate high‑impact, cross‑platform coverage across sports, business, lifestyle, and entertainment outlets.
Cultivate and maintain strong, authentic relationships
with key national, local, and trade media, with a focus on reporters covering the intersection of sports, culture, and business.
Own the creation of all core press materials
including releases, pitches, media alerts, FAQs, key messaging documents, and executive talking points.
Secure meaningful
earned media
that drives awareness, engagement, and conversion among fans, partners, and the broader public.
Collaborate seamlessly with the Creative, Content, and Social teams to ensure
consistent storytelling and message discipline
across all digital and traditional channels.
Strategic Partnership & Event Communications
Serve as a
strategic communications advisor
to league departments and clubs, offering guidance on crisis communications, media best practices, and message development.
Work closely with
club communications leads
to maximize shared storytelling opportunities and coordinate communications around key league moments and announcements.
Partner on
media operations and communications planning
for major league events (e.g., Challenge Cup, Summer Cup, Media Day, Championship), ensuring flawless execution.
Manage external
agency partners , providing clear direction and accountability to deliver effective campaign support and media results.
Monitoring & Cultural Insights
Track media coverage and industry trends
to identify timely cultural and business conversations, proactively positioning the NWSL into the discussion.
Monitor competitive PR activity and stay current on emerging media platforms and
PR innovations ; recommend new, data‑backed approaches to elevate the league’s visibility and impact.
What You Will Bring Core Qualifications
3-5 years of hands‑on experience in public relations , ideally in sports, entertainment, or high‑growth consumer brand communications.
Proven track record of developing and executing strategic PR programs
that demonstrably drive earned media coverage and measurable brand impact.
Established relationships with key national sports, business, and lifestyle media contacts.
A strong writer and editor with exceptional written and verbal communication skills; adept at message development, executive prep, and compelling storytelling.
Experience working
cross‑functionally
within an organization and managing external
agency partners .
Highly
collaborative, organized, and proactive —must thrive in a fast‑paced environment and efficiently manage multiple, competing projects.
A

$90,000 – $105,000 (Salary is contingent upon candidate qualifications and functional business needs).
