The Amesbury School Committee invites exceptional candidates to apply for the position of
Superintendent of Schools . This executive role offers a multi‑year contract and a competitive salary in the range of $190,000–$205,000 per year, along with a negotiable fringe benefits package.
About the Community Amesbury is a small city on the north shore of Massachusetts, bordering southern New Hampshire and located at the junction of I‑95 and I‑495. The community is tight‑knit, hard‑working, and growing, with historic charm, open spaces, and a commitment to smart development. The city features over 1,000 acres of open space, more than 20 miles of trails and cycleways, and many lakes and rivers for year‑round recreation.
About Amesbury Public Schools Amesbury Public Schools is led by a seven‑member School Committee and serves 1,819 students across five schools:
Sergeant Jordan Shay Memorial Lower Elementary School: Pre‑K – 2
Cashman Elementary School: 3 – 5
Amesbury Middle School: 6 – 8
Amesbury Innovation High School: 9 – 12
Amesbury High School: 9 – 12
The FY 2026 district budget is $43,461,473, inclusive of grants, state, and federal funding. Teachers are highly qualified, dedicated, and maintain strong relationships with students.

Minimum Qualifications
Licensed or eligible for licensure as a superintendent of schools in Massachusetts
Master’s degree required; advanced degree preferred
Minimum of 10 years in education, including teaching, central office, and/or administrative experience
Selected Responsibilities
Develop and direct an effective administrative leadership team
Demonstrate dynamic, visible, accessible, and inclusive communication and leadership skills
Show proven experience and success in innovative problem‑solving, strategic planning, budget development, and capital planning
Engage stakeholders productively and build consensus
Lead change implementation, management, and continuous improvement initiatives
Compensation & Benefits Annual salary range: $190,000–$205,000. A negotiable fringe benefits package is offered, and a multi‑year contract will be secured for a future‑focused leader with exceptional credentials and accomplishments.
