Data Scientist – OSINT Research
The Data Scientist will support government-sponsored open-source intelligence (OSINT) research and analysis by collecting, processing, and interpreting large volumes of publicly available and commercially acquired data. The ideal candidate will combine strong data science skills with an analytical mindset, applying modern data engineering and machine learning techniques to derive insights that inform national security and policy decisions. This position offers the opportunity to contribute to mission‑critical intelligence efforts while collaborating with experienced analysts, data engineers, and researchers in a fast-paced, data‑driven environment.
Key Responsibilities
Collect, clean, and integrate diverse open‑source and commercial datasets, including text, imagery, social media, and geospatial data.
Apply statistical analysis, natural language processing (NLP), and machine learning methods to identify patterns, trends, and anomalies in large datasets.
Develop, test, and maintain data pipelines, models, and analytic workflows that support OSINT research objectives.
Build and maintain dashboards, data visualizations, and analytic tools to support decision‑making.
Collaborate with intelligence analysts, cybersecurity professionals, and data scientists to produce actionable, data‑driven insights.
Prepare clear, concise technical reports and presentations for government and mission stakeholders.
Research and implement emerging tools, APIs, and methods relevant to OSINT and data analytics.
Ensure compliance with ethical standards, data privacy regulations, and government information security policies.
Requirements
Fluency in English (written and spoken).
U.S. citizenship and ability to obtain and maintain a TS/SCI security clearance with the U.S. Government.
Education
Bachelor’s degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, Applied Mathematics, Information Systems, or a related field required.
Required Skills, Experience and Abilities
Minimum of 5 years of combined academic and professional experience in data science, analytics, or applied research.
Hands‑on experience with data analysis and modeling using Python (e.g., pandas, NumPy, scikit‑learn) or R.
Experience using APIs, web scraping, or other data collection techniques for open‑source data.
Proficiency with data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI, Plotly, matplotlib, or seaborn).
Understanding of machine learning principles, model evaluation, and statistical methods.
Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present technical findings to non‑technical audiences.
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s degree in Data Science, Analytics, or related field.
Experience supporting U.S. Government or national security missions.
Background in natural language processing (NLP), entity recognition, or geospatial analytics.
Familiarity with OSINT frameworks, publicly available information (PAI) tools, or social network analysis.
Knowledge of cloud‑based data environments (e.g., AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform).
Certifications such as CompTIA Data+, AWS Certified Data Analytics, or GIAC Open Source Intelligence (GOSI).
