Either has worked on both platforms separately or has experience with integrations or conversions.
Customer environments running VMware vSphere 6.x and 7.x, typically on perpetual licenses not transitioning to Broadcom-managed subscriptions.
Focused on stability, diagnostics, and support continuity for production workloads.
Support excludes patching, firmware, or version upgrades — strictly configuration, troubleshooting, and root-cause analysis.
Core Responsibilities
Serve as Tier-3 escalation for VMware vSphere and vCenter environments across enterprise and data center customers.
Diagnose and resolve complex issues involving vCenter Server, ESXi hosts, and vSphere Clusters (HA, DRS, FT).
vMotion and Storage vMotion performance and failures.
Datastore provisioning and connectivity (VMFS, NFS, iSCSI, Fibre Channel).
vSAN health and performance troubleshooting.
Distributed Switch (vDS) and Standard Switch (vSS) configuration and networking faults.
Perform root cause analysis (RCA) for host and cluster issues.
Review and optimize existing configurations for reliability and efficiency.
Document solutions, create internal KB articles, and provide prescriptive guidance to Level-2 engineers.
Support incident response and post-incident review as part of 3rd-party SLA deliverables.
Required Expertise
7+ years of hands‑on experience supporting or administering VMware vSphere environments in production.
Strong knowledge of:
vCenter Server management (Linked Mode, roles, permissions, inventory service).
ESXi host troubleshooting, resource scheduling, and log analysis.
vSAN configuration, storage policy management, and failure remediation.
Networking within vSphere (vDS, VLANs, port groups, NIC teaming).
Storage configuration and multipathing for iSCSI and NFS.
Use of PowerCLI for configuration, health checks, and automation.
Proven ability to operate in vendor‑independent or 3rd‑party support models (no OEM escalation).
Experience supporting enterprise or MSP customer environments.
Preferred Experience
VMware certification (VCP‑DCV 6.x/7.x) or equivalent practical expertise.
Familiarity with vSAN, SRM, and VMware Replication.
Exposure to migration assessments (VMware, Proxmox/Nutanix/KVM).
Understanding of multi‑tenant environments or managed service frameworks.
Strong documentation and communication discipline, with a focus on customer satisfaction.
