My client is a leading public media company dedicated to delivering trusted journalism, entertainment, and educational content across broadcast, digital, and streaming platforms. Position Overview The Technical Accounting Manager will serve as a subject‑matter expert on complex accounting issues, including revenue recognition, content acquisition and licensing, leases, and other technical areas. The role will also support financial reporting, policy development, and collaboration with external auditors. This is a high‑visibility position within a growing finance organization, reporting to the Director or VP of Accounting, and working closely with FP&A, Legal, and Operations teams.
Key Responsibilities
Research, analyze, and document technical accounting issues under U.S. GAAP, including revenue recognition (ASC 606), leases (ASC 842), content capitalization (ASC 926), business combinations (ASC 805), and impairment testing.
Monitor and assess the impact of new accounting standards, developing and implementing policies and procedures as needed.
Partner with FP&A and operational leaders to ensure accounting implications are understood for new initiatives, partnerships, or business models (e.g., streaming, licensing, digital advertising).
Prepare technical memos, white papers, and accounting position documentation for management and auditors.
Support quarterly and annual SEC reporting (10‑Q, 10‑K, 8‑K) and assist with disclosures related to technical topics.
Assist in the preparation of financial statements and footnote disclosures in compliance with GAAP and SEC requirements.
Support audit processes and serve as a key liaison with external auditors.
Participate in internal control and SOX compliance activities related to technical accounting areas.
Provide training and guidance to accounting and finance staff on technical accounting matters.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance; CPA required.
6–10+ years of relevant accounting experience, including at least 2 years in a public company or Big 4 / national firm.
Strong technical knowledge of U.S. GAAP, SEC regulations, and internal controls.
Experience with media, entertainment, or technology industries strongly preferred (e.g., content production, licensing, subscription models).
Proven ability to research complex issues and communicate findings clearly to non‑technical stakeholders.
Experience with ERP systems (e.g., Oracle, SAP, NetSuite) and strong Excel/analytical skills.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to produce clear and well‑supported technical documentation.
